I'm referring to myself BTW.
For some while now I have been having trouble with the water flow from my van system. It seemed like the pump was on the way out but I wasn't convinced. Fortunately I kept the old pumps in case I was wrong. I also changed the leisure battery (again keeping the old one). The problem seemed intermittent and sometimes I needed to run the engine while working in order to get a reasonable flow rate. Anyway, a couple of days ago the problem suddenly got worse and it became very obvious that air was being drawn in by the pump. It wasn't obvious before but looking back, I guess I should have worked it out. I had already checked the hose connections by the pump and saw no problem so wondered where this leak was. Then I had my eureka moment. The hose that feeds the pump is jubilee clipped to a barb fitting that goes into the top of the tank. It was hard to spot but where it is clipped to it, a small split had developed. When it got worse the other day, I assume that the split had just got bigger. So, after two pumps and a leisure battery, I snipped an inch from a piece of hose, re-clipped it, and all is well. At least I won't have to buy any pumps or leisure batteries for quite a while anyway
. I am a great believer in having spares but even I don't usually go this far.

Having a spare is the best way of ensuring the pump never packs up. Pumps only pack up when you haven't got a spare and there is a postal strike on.

when my system broke down the other day i couldnt work out if it was the wiring, pump or the controller,
i bought a new pump then realized i could test the old pump on a battery charger,
realized the pump was ok so bought a controller, so now have a brand new pump, which i think i should i should have spare anyway. but now my van is set up via a leisure battery which it should have been years ago!
