Cutting a long story short, I've been using 1/4" hose for quite some time on my trolley to suck the water out of a barrel. It's been inadequate to put it mildly as the large bore hose seems to introduce airlocks. At one point it was so bad I actually thought the pump was knakcered and was preparing to send it back! I finally got round to fitting an adapter to allow the use of minibore hose instead of the 1/4" stuff. I've not had a single airlock since plus the water flow isnt as variable as what it was. Well worth looking into if you haven't already done it.

As an aside has anyone used microbore hose for the intake? Any issues?
