Ladders have been banned for years.Thats why you can still buy 1 from b&q or hire 1 from tool hire shop.Ladders have to be secured above 6m other than that your fine.wfp will be banned long before ladders.you wait till a couple of idiots get electrocuted.

the owner of the building has a duty of care to make sure you are safe on the roof ive done a roof on a massive factory the owner had to have a scaffold barrier all the way around and in front of sky lights although i think there are cheaper ways it depends on how close to the edge your working how close to sky lights ect ect

I have been looking into this for a while, following the jokers putting out flyers saying ladders are illegal so we now do WFP!

H & S Executive's website mentions ladders are ok is used competently.

I asked our local Trading Standards and they got H and S Execs reposnse of not illegal, if used for more than 30 minutes in one position then needs securing or a cost effective viable alternate needs to be used. 

If you are up the ladder for more than 30 minutes without moving it is eother one big window and you are slow or you have fallen asleep.

The key is keeping it safe, there is risk in everything - minimise it!

While we are on it why do so few in our trade use cones and warning signs?#

I have a Traffic Engineering background so use cones and signs where appropriate.

that is true simon .but most people including myself .find it safer ,and quicker using wfp .iv had a few near misses on ladders .but that was the risk untill wfp came along

Where in law does the 30 minute rule come in, the WAHR says the ladder must be secured, no mention of 30 mins imo

in the working at height regs 2005 it states and i quote     you must ensure that NO work is done at height if it is safe and reasonably practicable to do it other than at height.

you must use the most suitable equipment   unquote

i got nothing against ladder windys i got 2 mates that do it still i did it for years but wouldnt go back in a millian years my ex is a surgery nurse in deriford hospital and says they are forever operating on people that have fallen off ladders  not for me guys but you carry on
