One of my vac motors in my mytee 1005dx has gone.

I could smell burning coming from my machine. It tripped the electric, so i opened the machine up. The smell was coming from one of the vac motors. The motor is also noisy, rattles. If you switch the vac on it sparks and trips electric.

Could this be the brushes? Where can i find replacement brushes and who makes the motor.

The waste tank got alittle full and i noticed water coming from the bottom of my machine on my last job which i think may have caused this.

How many hours has that vac motor done? Do you have an hours conter on the machine? Or how liong have you had the machine for? Is it still under warrenty?

I have never looked inside of a mytee before but vac motors are usually fairly easy to replace. You could do it yourself in about an hour.

If the vac has gone (by the sounds of it yours has defo gone) then changing the brushes will do nothing.

Changing the brushes is only beneficial if you do it say before 250 hours of use (maybe even less. The  carbon brush should only be half used) as most lamb motors are rated at 500 hours. But i think the motors in a mytee are different? I think mytee have thier own type of vac motor am I right in thinking that?

The suppliar you bought it from should also be able to supply you with brushes (for the future) and the vac motor.

Just checked. Matt at cleansmart sells the mytee Speedster, So i presume he'll also stock vac motors and brushes. He defo sells the brushes as I have bought brushes from him before.

I don't think Matt does them anymore but he can still get the parts etc

I got his last one, he did an a-team job on it to stop any problems he'd had with the rest, lasted me a 3.5 good years and I still have it as a back up or for bad access jobs.

Gotta say though my speedster performed fantastic for more than a year with a cheap chinese vac off ebay, i bought two in case they were crap but never had to use the second

I bought it second hand. The seller sold it to me as nearly new (used a handful of times) as such i have no idea of hours of use.

I should have checked the brushes first before i started to use it. One vac has i think gone. I'll check the brushes in the other vac before i use it.

I'll give matt at cleansmart a ring to see if he can point me in the right direction. I've only used the machine a handful of times myself, So the other bloke must hand used it a fair bit, although if he did he looked after it really well as it looked liked brand new.

I would like to fit an hours counter, how easy are these to intall.

Get to know your machine... It actually saved us having to buy a new washing machine as I found that the brushes had gone, my wife was all for buying a new one from Argos for £600 today... .

Before you buy a new motor, buy new brushes, take the motor out and thoroughly dry it by taking it to a high pressure tyre hose at the petrol sation. If there's still a problem, at least you have spare brushes for the new motor you'll need to buy.

In future, dry run your motors after every single job, for at least a couple of minutes....

I'll ring around on monday and try to get some new brushes as my friend and a few other have suggested.
I noticed some universal brushes on ebay and wounder if they would be any good, obviously the correct original ones would be best.

Tommorrow i'll take the vac brushes out and have a good look.

clean off the soot/crap from where the brushes contact the motor, this can help reduce the sparks. I have used tissue in the past but you can get a polishing stick that will do the job.Then put new brushes on..t

Not sure if its the case with all, but most Lamb motors I have seen have a thin wraparound cover over the brushes (they are not visible like the pictures show), this has a single crosshead screw holding it together. Undo the screw, unfold the cover and you will see the brushes, normally brown. Undo them and replace.

ok so,

Took the motor apart and upon inspection the brushes were fine. The armature looks to be damaged so still not working.

I have bought a replacement lamb ametek motor with serial 117123-00 but i've i noticed it has no airseal and it is only suitable for dry air only apparently? I should have bought 117123-13 which has an airseal.

Can anyone tell more about the airseal?

See if your supplier will change it.
If the unit has smoked badly with a noise like a distant thunderstorm then its shot. The armature will be black and rough. Finis.
It is probably the result of water in the windings. I can never understand manufacturters fitting the motor with the fan unit on top. It is a cheap way of assembling the machine, Slightest leak and bang another sold to the sucker with the  leaky machine.

Yeah, like I said once the vac motor starts shorting the eletrics etc then basicly a new vac motor. Brushes are only a preemptive mesure.

Your suppliar should change that vac for you.

Another tips is to buy a spare vac motor. Saves the down time.
