5 ish per 1000 and i put my prices on, always advertise prices on all ads, websites etc. cuts out most of the price shoppers and time wasters.

1% or 10 per 1000 is considered average.
Generally it doesn't matter how fabby dosie your leaflet is, it's all about it landing on the doorstep on the very day that someone is thinking about having something done. Although that is not a strict rule and I could give 2 examples of why it isn't, generally it's all about timing.
Mike Halliday is the King of leaflets speak to him, although be prepared to put out about 10,000 a month, hitting the same streets month after month.

I tried flyers once about 11 years ago.  Got bored very quickly! It alot harder and time consuming that it looks. Wasn't for me.

Think i delivered just over 300 in total and got 2 jobs out off it. Ad had prices onn it. I still have the other 4,700 flyers siting in my office!  :)

Neil, I dont know where you have got that figure from ?    is this what you expect or are you basing this on collective evidence,
never heard 1percent been the norm , more like 1 in 1,000 is nearer the mark.

Can only base that figure on what has been submitted over the years on various forums.
Personally I've never hit 1% on a sustained hit, (sustained meaning 1,000's) because that figure could be falsely read if you happened to hit the right area on the right day with 500 leaflets.
1:1000 would be 0.1% On that basis I doubt any of us would bother with all that legwork involved

Neil I have to agree with part of what you are saying , but in reality   1 in 1,000 direct responce may and should lead to repeat and referals.
Well thats the way I look at it /

When I first started in Direct Marketing with Everest and Encyclopedia Brittanica

They worked on 1 per 1000 just to get an enquiry

Yes i have read 1 per 100 in marketing books and companies promoting leaflet distribution.

At the end of the day diffrent products get diffrent results

For example if in the early days You were giving the Movie Channels or the Sport Channels FREE with a sky for 6 months you would get a good result

From my limited leafleting experiments I have averaged about 5 enquiries per thousand.  No prices, same as I wouldn't put prices on any advertising/marketing literature.

Every area is different. Some will be predominently parish mag users only, some go with sponsored link, some go with natural search results and some areas work best with leaflets.
