How do you go about putting part time staff into a small cleaning job like this one?

Not sure if I understand your question but a job like this would normally be on a rota with other work.  I doubt very much if you would get someone to do just two hours per week!  You could think of making the job into a one person stint for 4 hours if you haven't got much other work.

Like I said not sure if I understand the question but hope this helps a little!

Thanks for reply.  The job consists of cleaning a small office area (office, meeting room, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and hallway) plus the stairwell and communal areas of the hostel.  Also one off thorough cleans of units as they become vacant by the teenagers which can take 4 hours (one person cleaning). 

Our dilemma is that we would like to put someone in to do the cleaning but not sure how to go about it as it is such a small job as you say and we have nothing else at present.  Would we be better advertising the job as two jobs i.e. one person to clean office and another to clean stairwell or maybe try and get a couple to do it as some of the cleaning is suited to a woman and some a man I think.  Or should we just go with one person to do the lot on the weekly clean?

On the unit cleans would you think one or two people to do these as there is moving appliances in the kitchen and the units are pretty dirty.  Also do you think it would be possible to employ people for one off cleans like this and at what wage?

Having never employed anyone before or done this type of work myself until only recently wanted advice on how to employ people, what to look for in a cleaner, do you need references that type of thing and how much to pay.

Any advice most welcome.

If you are only earning while you are working, ie cleaning this hostel, then you have a job [albeit only a small or part time job]

If you are earning in your absence, ie other people doing the cleaning, then you are on the road to having a business, again, only a very small one at this stage.

To take on employees, you need to register with the Inland Revenue and they will then send you out an information pack and also your employers reference number etc.

They will also send you information run by the Business Services division of the IR. These are basically 'free' consultants and they run free courses on all aspects of tax and employment.

If you look at the IR website you should be able to find all of the information you need.
