Does anyone who has a static RO/DI system in their garage know if it is insured? I have checked with my insurer and the fact that it would be in a part of the property (integral garage) would invalidate the policy in the event of a claim. This would be the case even if it was unrelated to the equipment eg a burgalery - the mere existence of the kit would invalidate the policy! Has anyone looked into this? What sort of policy have you got?

Would the invalidation be under a clause that forbids the property from being used for anything commercial?

Matt (crossing all appendages) "No, Guv, it's for my goldfish."

Insurance assessor:  "What? A 1000 litre, caged, opaque tank for a goldfish?"

Matt (taking out eye-watering onion) "Yes, I won my little Goldie at the fair when I was a boy, he is my one true love and the bright lights frightened him so much that I had to buy an opaque tank."

Insurance assessor: (skeptically) "But why the cage?"

Matt "Well he gets emotional so if he charges against the sides he won't break out!"

Insurance assessor "And what about that pole and pump thing>"

Matt "Well Goldie was used to the fairground rides so I fire him up the pole and into the outside pond - he loves it!"

Insurance assessor: "I thought he hated the light?"

Matt (Rolling eyes) "Well I only do it at night, don't I?"

This has turned into a mammoth scale operation because.... I can't get insurance. Brokers seem to only deal in very basic policies and have advised me to contact insurers direct and the insurers have advised me to do likewise. Does anyone know of a broker/insurer who would be able to offer this type of insurance? It is more the consequential damage in the event of the apparatus breaking down and flooding the place that I am concerned about AND the fact that it is there not affecting my policy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
