You don't need to turn taps off, and my advice is to get a HF5 4040 RO unit (about £300) not a 600 god thing.You park your van, connect it to the water supply and it fills up. Van systems have a float switch that turns the water off when its full. So you can go to bed and not worry about it.A 4040 RO unit will fill a 600 litre tank in about 2 or 3 hours.
If u can get the garage space then i would go that way, u can get different size tanks to save space in there, but i think your dad might want 2 be more concerned about the water use (if your on a meter) - If u go the van way, it will take up more room in there and in the winter u will need some sort of heater to keep the membrane above 1c. As nick said above 4040 is the best way, as this will make water quicker without a reel need 4 a booster pump
