i have a custy thats just had a massive extension built and the whole back is glass 18k just for the glass the extension is nearly finished and they have asked for me to clean the insides trouble is there is concrete plaster and all sorts splashed all over them and i mean all over they are not the best of payers either the house costs £30 to clean how do you go about pricing up that sort of thing please ive herd its 10x what the normal price is but dont know how true that is thanks guys

boldy dont even price it up mate!i always refuse inside work on domestics.its not worth being accused of scratching glass if there is plaster,cement on the windows.

I bet all the contractors asked them if they had a window cleaner - window cleaners just love cleaning up all the mess we make - after all it's what you pay them for. When you refuse they will throw a tantrum.

If you have problem with payment now, wait until you quote them for the standard conservatory clean. Large conservatories with lots of glass take longer than the house to clean, but they won't see that.

Good advise, don't quote, refuse job and walk away if you feel pressurised.

It's their right to ask you to quote for the job and it's your right to be able to refuse.

Don't start messing with cement on windows unless you really know what you are doing. The fact that you had to ask means you obviously don't.

The cement contains sharp sand which will scratch the glass if it isn't already. The builder may have already had a go at getting some of it off and scratched the glass but if you touch it it will be you that gets the blame, and the bill.

Even if you know what you are doing its a very slow job, from your description hours of painstaking work.

Boldy, as said buy others don't bother.

Maybe the most diplomatic way out of it is to say your insurance does not cover you for this type of work.

If you did, want to do the job then get them to sign a disclaimer, maybe someone on here could email one?
and put in a big price.

 I`ll nearly guarantee that glass has a few scratches already from just generally messy untidy builders,crap all over the glass is a good sign. Just tell the householders straight to expect that glass to be scratched either already or during the removal process and thats why you wont touch it. Some glass,due to the manufacturing process can not ever have a scraper applied to it without scratching and thats a fact so if it gets soiled with building debris/plaster/concrete etc thats requires a scraper for it to be removed then its either accept it being scratched or have it replaced.

Google tempered glass and fabricating debris,get these householders educated with this and then let them know that the crap on the windows needs to be removed by those that put it on.

I agree builders that leave that sort of mess on the glass almost always have been slapdash with other things, handling it, fitting it etc

18k of glass that your insurance probably doesn't cover you to work on that is covered in concrete and plaster!

If it isn't already scratched I absolutely guarantee it will be by the time its clean.

Even with a scratch waiver in place I'd say the best you can hope for is that the customer refuses to pay.
