Shurflo Pump
« on: June 08, 2011, 09:41:04 am »
It's raining here so I've been up the shed looking at an old shurflo pump which I'm hoping will work when I put a new pressure switch in.

I've taken the top thingy - held on with three screws - off with all the springs and gubbins and kept it in the right order and put it back together.

Is this little assembly what I need to buy or can I do something with it my self?

Where do I buy it?

Where do the wires go?

Ta v much

It's a game of three halves!

It sounds as if you have removed the pressure switch housing from the pump.
The pressure switch is located inside of that so you need to remove the spade connectors from the terminals just by pulling them off, then you can prise the pressure switch out by using a small flat screwdriver to lever it out.
Maplins sell a microswitch (part no. GW71N) which will replace it and costs less than £2.
Although this microswitch has wider terminals so you will need to use bigger spade connectors to overcome this.

Steady on!  ;D
The Maplins microswitch has 3 terminals, so just ignore the middle terminal and attach your wires to the top and bottom terminals as per the original switch.

Gold, you know I'm no expert, but I'm sure that I disconnected my pressure switch because I use a flow controller.

Do you use a flow controller?  If so, is there any need to mess about with the pressure switch?

Just interested.  ;D

I have a variflow fitted but I intentionally  ignored the instruction to bypass the pressure switch.  The reason being that I've had a couple of malfunctions with the variflowand it's kept pumping and blow connectors apart.  The pressure switch act as a final safety cut out just in case.

I did - then I fried the flow controller. And guys on here said you can just replace the pressure switch for a few quid.

So here's what I did while I was getting rained on and you were out quoting that lovely lady this morning:-.

Got my old pump, used Andy M's advice, went to maplins bought three pressure switches replaced the pressure switch and hey presto my pump is working.

I've now mounted it near my present one so that when the pressure switch goes I just swap the hoses to the repaired pump and when I get home I can put a new pressure switch in the now blown one.

I have a tap on my belt where the pole hose meets the reel hose for on/off/and flow rate.

So I reckon I've saved about £100 on replacing my flow controller. Switches are less than £2 and I owe andy m a pint!
