If you are drawing the water from the lid of the tank then you may not need a 1/2" hose outlet. If you do not want an outlet for the tank then you will still have a 1" female port at the bottom of the tank which you will need to do something with. We do sell (as do most other suppliers) 1" blanking plugs if you do not want to use it as an outlet.

I would go for the 1/2" hose outlet as it's more practical, easier to use all the water in the tank.

Otherwise airlocks will be your headache.

If you have a tap fitted at the bottom you can use it to drain the tank in the deep frosts we get.

i went for a copper adapter then an elbow and a shutoff valve.
then a short copper pipe with a piece of garden hose pushed over it
find a local plumbing place they will have everything.
the diy place wont have any of it or it will be very expensive.

guys ill be using the trolley to draw the water out of tank via the top lid.ive purposely got a 350L so i leave a little water at all times in the bottom of the tank so i dont get airlocks.i wont use more than 300L most days.if i need more ill just nip home for a re=fill as all work is in a 8 mile area(most 5 mile) or use a customers outside tap via a DI.

if your taking water through the top, then you will have to empty the pipe to put the lid on.
which is where you will get the air in the pipe.
just take the water from the out let with a shut off tap much easier.

the lid will very rarely be on mate!2 pipes from my 50L TROLLEY(THAT NORMALLY GO INTO 2 BARRELS).then when i fill up in the evening just a hosepipe from DI straight into the tank.

dont know what you mean about getting air in the system?as long as i dont use all the water out of my tank ill be fine.just like when using barrels.i never let the barrels run totally dry.its a layflat tank so ill be fine i reckon.

I think you are compromising too much here.
Get a 350l upright, pump, varistream and hose reel. Keep the trolley independent which will be great for the days you dont want it in the van which will  likely be most often as the van mount system reveals its benefits.
If you want to give me a ring i`ll explain why in more detail otherwise i`ll need to type about 3 pages worth.

im sorry sean i dont see why i should buy another pump and varistream when ive already got one on the trolley!plus i want to remove the pump on freezing winter nights!

the reason im getting a flat tank is i think id prefer the weight evenly distributed over the van floor.there will still be space for my trolley in front of it and room for trad gear etc on top of tank.with only securing my tank with ratchet straps i think the flat tank will be the better option.

if at a later date i just want the van mount i can always sell the trolley and buy a pump/varistream/battery.
