Indian sand stone & Granite stone clean & seal
« on: May 25, 2011, 09:32:02 pm »
We are going to put our wheel, to measure it on a job in excess of 10 000sqm.

The client is high profile and I need to source a suitably experienced contractor to assist us with the project.

The job is to clean up a newly laid floor and then to offer a full seal of the stone used. It is an external project.

I am currently working away with some access to the internet.

I am not interested in hearing about all the problems with this work, I understand them but the client has asked me to get involved because they want it done.

I cannot go back to them with leave it well alone - not an option!!!

Anyone capable and interested please leave initial interest here and I will look in tomorrow night.

Many thanks

Rob ;D

Call me if you are stuck.  I will need more details regarding colors of sandstone and granite.  Type of sealer required whether basic or premium regarding longevity.  I assume an impregnator but need to know whether they need color enhancement or not obviously because of weather during application.  Also is the granite honed or polished.

Just got in from looking at the job. The measurements are just over 7600sqm.

We have tested the three different surfaces and none of them can be sealed. There is a meeting that we have been invited to, with Marshalls, to see what the best option is moving forward.

I have a couple of phone calls to make on Tuesday to exhaust the sealing options. We are currently putting together a maintenance package, with various options but these will primarily involve maintenance cleaning.

Unless someone knows something that we don't it will be taken care of by our pressure washing associates and ourselves. Anyone that wants to talk to me about it give me a call on 07919 425664.

Many thanks

We did water drop tests on the stone and the water sat on the top. Taking advice from a qualified supplier there recommendation was to look at water based and solvent based options but that if water did sit on the top then the stone could not be impregnated with sealer. I had to take this information secondhand but will be making another couple of calls on Tuesday because I remember having a conversation with a particular supplier that they had a specific product.

We cannot afford to make the area slippery. Possibly 100 000 people per week walking on the area in question.

There are other issues as well - we cannot clean it and close large sections off to wait for it to dry as there are shops all down it so potentially whatever we clean will be walked on before we can get a sealer on it and dried.

As said have not finished with the sealing option till Tuesday.

The stone concerned is an unsealed Indian sandstone - this is dirty and unpolished, has chewing gum & heavy soiling already, There is a buff & red polished granite and a blue/black granite polished.

I am open to suggestions because if the Indian sandstone in particular cannot be sealed then it is going to be looked after by a maintenance package but will always look rubbish between cleans.

I have photos but cannot do anything till this evening as I need to go to Telford to pick up two pressure washers.

Anyone wanting to see the pics I will have to send to your emails as I have never been able to upload to the forum.

This is not my area (sealing) so again I am happy to take further advice. What I am capable of is the cleaning up and maintenance once and if a sealer can be put down!
