I fancy a Land Rover Defender 110 for WFP and was interested in feedback from any existing users out there re running costs and what they are like generally to live with, size of tanls fitted etc. I know there is one guy who has a fleet of them and swears by them but are they more widely used?
I have always liked the look of them and could use more than three seats as in my current van. Have looked at Ford Rangers and L200's etc but think a Land Rover has a better image and would be more durable?

One of the guys on here uses 110 flatbeds... think he has 125L tanks joined up. I looked into it myself as i like defenders... a 110, 12 seater should fit 4 x 125L tanks in the back.

i have a 90 defender that i use as a second car,  i was going use for work but i now only  use it if there is any problems with my van,wouldnt not fancy using it everyday they aint very good on fuel, and a rough ride,when iv been using it for a few days im glad get back to my van for a bit of comfort

We get around 28mpg. That's not too bad I think, especially carrying round 1/2 tonne of water.

We get around 28mpg. Not brilliant but I doubt vans get much better. Once you factor in depreciation they are great value for money. I sold one this year for 3 times what I paid for it 5 years ago (I did get a bargain though). In general they do depreciate much more slowly than vans.

They are not exactly luxurious or comfortable but there are many after market things that you can get for them, it all depends on your budget.

There are 75l tanks that fit together nicely and fit right into the back of a Defender. Our 110s and 109s carry 450l that does 2 men about half a day using our system which has DI tanks fitted so you can top up anywhere. That would differ if you wanted a crew cab 110

Land Rover has a better image and would be more durable?

I bought my first Land Rover (a series 3 109) 10 years ago. It is used every day. It has done over 300,000 miles and is 32 years old. It starts first time every morning but does require routine maintenance. As far as image goes, it's hard to put a number on it but we definitely get customers as a direct result of not being 'white van men'. You get noticed.

I ran a 110 for 4 years no problems at all except only returned
22-26mpg but .........I bought it for £8k and sold it for £8500.
I then bought a Citroen dispatch £9k and just sold it 6 month later
For £7k , it returned 35-38 mpg, was slower than landrover
But top speed better , I hated it and now looking for another
To use, this time ill buy a 90 as that's all I need. But I don't think
You'll have a problem with anything and it will always be worth

I just like the look of them, always have. I also looked at Ford Rangers etc earlier this year but when a Vivaro popped up down the road from me with a 650 Ionic system fitted it seemed too good to miss. Still want a Landy tho.

I'm sold on my Ranger. Does 25-27 mpg, is comfortable, has a near six foot load bed, seats four and is extremely tough.

Big fan of Defenders though since I read that of the 2 million + built since 1948 over 80% are still on the road.

My first WFP system was in a trailer towed behind my old discovery, tank and pump in the trailer, hose and poles etc in the discovery.
Trailer was a small 4'x3' box trailer with a 250l tank - trouble was it was so small I couldn't see it in the mirrors until it had gone the 'wrong way' when reversing. Fuel economy was bad too - 300TDI
Still use the trailer with my van sometimes, it now houses the generator, gutter van & pressure washer.
