Stripping Decking
« on: May 25, 2011, 06:51:43 am »
Hi Guys,

Went and looked at a deck and our usual way of stripping the deck didn't seem to touch the deck so was wondering if anyone knows of any other products/process? The deck has been treated with stain (not oil)!!!

Regards
Alan  :)

How do you normally strip oil/stain from decking?

Theres no need to strip oil out - just clean and re-oil. The stains in question are more like a brown paint so I would try paint stripper or a Graffiti remover, I usually price myself out of these jobs. I once have to clean a patio belonging to one of the McAlpine brothers after he had his balcony resealed and they never tarped the stones, I used Johnstons paint stripper which removed the resin and fullers earth to remove the oil - the fullers earth was a pain to keep out of the pool during the pressure washing ! He sent a letter to thank me for the results which arrived weeks before the cheque

I usually use a very harsh stripping fluid/process but for some reason it didn't work that well!!! So i gave heat a go and it had better results but still not great so have been in touch with some chemical suppliers and have got a few samples to try!!!

So thanks for all the help guys ;)

Alan
