Strange malting carpet....?
« on: May 24, 2011, 05:31:08 pm »
Hi

Today i cleaned a customers carpet, i did the usual inspection and identified the carpet to be a mix of wool/ synthetic with a jute backing.
Once i had dry vacuum'd i pre sprayed using Prochem's Pre spray gold, then gently agitated using a carpet brush.
Left the pre spay to dwell for about 5 mins then extracted using Fabric and fibre rinse.
When rinsing i started to notice small clumps of loose fibres appearing, looked like the insulation you use in your loft!
Look at the attached pics, after cleaning the lounge, hall and stairs look what i found in my recovery tank... very strange!

Anyone know what this is or what has caused this?

Come on.. there must be someone who has seen this happen before??

Thanks

Russ

The yarn is plyed from staple lengths.

When they yarn is are cut it leaves some of the lengths with nothing to anchor to as they are above the backing.

These then shed on agitation.

what he said Russ

sorry didn't get back sooner.

Yes it happens quite a lot if the carpets not been cleaned properly before.

Cheers guys

Was a little bit alarming when I was emptying my recovery tank, I did make a point to rinse with fibre and fabric as the carpet was also turning a little yellow even after pre spraying with pre spray gold.

Turned out ok in the end.

Thanks chaps
