Hello
I was wondering if some of you still knock regardless, as I did know somone who was a window cleaner and he would still knock even tho some houses had them warning stickers, about no cold calling, junk mail or canvassing etc bla bla bla

Any views on this?

Tom White

I would respect the sign.  I once canvassed a house where the old guy dragged himself to the door to answer my call; he must've had severe arthritis; and when I asked if he wanted a window cleaner, he looked gutted.  He didn't want one, nor did he look like he appreciated being dragged to the door.

Maybe some people in similar circumstances stick 'em up, maybe others do it because they're grumpy, maybe others because they're vulnerable people.

I'd give 'em a miss, personally, there's lots of doors without these stickers.

I may not knock, but I'd still put a leaflet in the door.

Do you think your leaflet is junk. NO .put it in Mate.

Why not respect what the sign says, there must be hundreds of houses without them on so canvass them instead.

got some good customers knocking with the signs on so go for it. and if they tell you to pee off then just say you are trying to make a living mate. they dont have to answer the door if they dont want to.

Would have thought it was pretty obvious. No means no. Tosh's post says it all.

If they want you at some time in the future, they'll find out about you from a neighbour.

I would respect the what the sign says.  If it says no junk mail I canvass.  If it says no canvassers I drop a leaflet.  If it says no to both, I turn around and walk away.  Pretty simple really.

As Ladder Monkey:

I knock and then when they answer I say "Oh, I'm sorry, I knocked before I saw your sign", then I turn and start to walk away.  I've never yet managed to walk ;D curiosity gets the better of them and they say "Oh, that's alright, what was it about?"

Maybe they'll still say no, but I've knocked at one that most other canvassers will have left alone, so I get first chance ;D

Knock on, if some nutter opens the door with a crazed look in his eye and an axe in his hand swinging for your head you'll know no canvassing means no canvassing!

Richard BF

ignore the sticker and just knock through it.

"dont worry im not selling anything im just trying to build up my window cleaning round "....

"hello there (sir madam) how are you ................. Im just building up my round...."
"hello there sir/madam nothing serious......

Try one of those when you knock a door with a no canvassing and youll be amazed how many people DONT point the square out afterall you offering services not getting money off them todya.

Just knock, in my area I would say that nearly 50% of households have these stickers.. I have got many customers knocking doors with these stickers on them!!  :)

People have been going round selling those stickers door to door. The irony of that didn't escape me. But it doesn't make much difference because most of the leafleters can't speak or read english.

The number of illegals deliving leaflets now is amazing, the number of leaflets we get through our door has gone up by say double what we were getting three or for years ago and this must have an impact for window cleaners so should be taken into consideration.

The sheer volume means that your leaflet is less likely to ever be read.
