Make your own leaflets
« on: October 05, 2005, 08:24:00 am »
I have watched with interest many of you 'domestic' cleaners who speak about leaflet drops.

I was wondering whether or not you print your own or pay to have them printed.

I have been experimenting with 'Microsoft Publisher' and the results are amazing. It has loads of templates to make it easier. You just type in your own text and import your logo's etc. One template is a 2 page document and when it's printed on both sides of a sheet of A4 paper it folds into a lovely 'tri-fold' brochure - perfect for a doorstep delivery and Sooooooooo professional.

As you are already aware, there are places where this sort of software can be 'shared' on some of the 'file sharing' sites (imesh, kazaa) but there is some dispute about the legality of this.

Please note : The author of this post does not in any way condone the use of unlicensed or illegal software.

Phew!  ;) That's cleared that up.

The cost of printing over the past couple of years seems to have plummeted. For a reasonable quantity I can't see it being worth the hassle of doing it yourself.

Try Tradeprint Warehouse. They published some prices on here some time ago and they were extremely cheap.

The cost of lazer printers have fallen to a point when i feel these are a great investment, i have always printed my own, and dont find it expensive , i am also not restricted to how many i want to print, if you print thousands you find half way through delivering them your circumstances could have changed ( email address, tel No.,prices etc)
So it works for me,
p.s. serif do a similar software package which i use, if i remember right then that was dirt cheap.

Chris ;)

Yes i agree with Mike, much cheaper to use printers. You may design your own using microsoft but the cost of actually printing them would cost a fortune in ink cartridges and even using a colour photo copier would work out approx 8p per copy 4 to 5 x the cost of using printing company.

i have just done 10,000 copies with colour on both sides via printers for less than £200

That's not a bad price but as Chris says, the flexibility is good too. By doing your own small print runs you can include promotions, special offers etc. and only have them for a small amount of time.

There is no "dispute" as to the legality of unlicensed software, it is 100% illegal - you can be fined -big time + disgruntled staff/anyone can (and have ) report you to the BSA(British software alliance) for a reward of 10% of the unpaid amounts of licensing pennies. Just remember the copy of X you bought that is on your machine, your spouses machine, kids, parents, friends etc is only a single user license..... If and when they (the BSA) get informed and investigate, they can and will check every bit of software on the machine/network.

By the way,the Kazaa is one of the most virus infected, adware bloated piece of Sh*t going. Make sure you thoroughly check with your AV software any piece of alleged software you allegedly downloaded, unzip the software and check it again.

5000 full colour,300gm dual sided A5 leaflets are about £90.

its just not worth the hassle.

Phil

I have designed my own leaflets in Publisher, using black ink on white paper.

I then print one off on the best quality then I take it down to my printers and they photo copy them for me at a rate od 1/2 p per A5 sheet.

This work well for me.

Yes there is still a massive dispute going on about this.............

Anyone in their right mind would have their PC well virus protected and wouldn't have the problems that you've had. Incidentally, nor would they need to use language like that to get their point across!

There's the sales pitch guys. Wait a while and we'll learn WHERE we can get them for £90!

its just not worth the hassle.

Oh yes it is!
