Any one use vyair pumps?
« on: May 04, 2011, 09:15:27 pm »
As title says.  I have 2 flojets at the moment and I think the drain is too much on the battery, I noticed that these pumps are a lower amp rating.  Anyone use them and are they any good?

Thanks for the fast response.

I've always had trouble with batteries lasting.  I charge each night and have a split charge relay, but after a few months new batteries will only last a few hours.  The flojets draw 9 amps so thats an 18 amp load on the battery.

I have a 5lpm vyair, and use old car batteries.
This setup can earn me between 150 to 300 quid before a recharge is needed. Had it 6 months, great pump.
This is on domestics. Hope this helps.

I've had mine fitted about a week.
It was to replace my 5 year old shurflow that I thought I should upgrade before I needed to.
The pump seems great and at a good price too and much quieter.

It did prove more costly than just a pump replacement for me though, I was using an old dial type flow controller without the facility to override the pressure switch so I was unable to use the pump at not much anything less than full flow else turning off the hose tap would have caused my controller to burn out. This is because the pumps pressure switch is not adjustable and is set to turn on/off at between 80 and 100 psi. Problem sorted with a new digital controller from crow electro.
What do they say "if it aint broke dont fix" ?  ::) ;D simon

Simon.

Hi Simon,

Get Vyair to confirm that their 5 lpm pump only uses 3 amp. They ran around the question when I emailed them - I asked twice.

I think the specs they have are incorrect. The only spec on the internet from the manufacturer is a current draw of a 24v pump at 40 psi = 3 amp. Nothing on 12v current draw. According to the voltage formula a 12v pump will be drawing twice the amperage a 24v pump does, so at 40psi the pump will be drawing 6amp, more than the equivalent Shurfo at that same pressure.

If you do a search there was something on here about 6 weeks ago, and if I remember, one poster who has an amp meter confirmed that the pump draws much more than 3 amps.
