genuine members and profiles
« on: April 30, 2011, 11:30:52 pm »
most of the genuine carpet cleaners on this forum put their website links for all to see and this has at sometime in the past caused some of them some grief from outsiders but on the whole it works so why can't the admin make it a condition of becoming a member to put web details on profiles, at least this way we are all on a level playing field, if a member is genuine why should they want to hide their details, there are a lot of people who visit this forum who want information but they are unwilling to give true details of themselves, is this right or wrong ?.

Not everyone has or wants a website so why should they be excluded from the site just because they don't have as many details to show. Also there are probably alot of people on the site who are looking for knowledge but don't feel they have enough experience to share. Not everyone feels comfortable writing on forums and putting personal details on the net....I know these aren't the people you are aiming this post at but it would be unfair to the genuine ones who just want to gain some knowledge.

There are other forums (not just carpet cleaning ones) which you cannot join unless you give your full details. Perhaps another way would be to hide each others details from each other unless you become a friend with that person, a bit like facebook.

good shout colin maybe that would deter the troublemakers though we would all have to remove our signatures then for it to work.

sarah i take your point re the newbies but surely from reading everything that has been written on here about the importance of marketing etc anyone serious about having a succesful cc business would have to have a web presence as a priority.

i do'nt know what the solution could be for those just gathering info who have not yet started and it would be a shame if they could not get the help/info they needed.

The problem with Forums is you can give away to much info.

I have been selling blinds for 10 years

I know notice two other Carpet Cleaners in my area are doing the same thing

A better way for them to go would be to concentrate on Cleaning

Houses Offices etc

I just happened to be in the Window Blind Industry so it would be daft for me to let it go completley

interesting....i've got nowt to hide....but sarah summed it up well for me just starting out..on here for knowledge to gain.....and experiences (all be it limited at the mo in some areas) to share....

Don't think its coincidence either that i have received a number of bogus emails since joining this forum....."i've lost my voice hence the email....what do you charge for a settee cleaned".....and i did reply in a polite manner (but couldn't give a price as i needed more info like leather or upholstery and suggested a visit to provide an accurate price......still awaiting a reply....i won't disclose the email address!

I get those and I'm reasonably sure that it isn't other cleaners, the thing to worry about is if you don't get enquiries, I only worry about what I charge I don't worry about anyone else it keeps me focused.

Your always going to get this with email enquires..

A small percentage will be other cleaners trying to find out your prices and checking what your resonse is like i.e. how your sellling yourself.
But most will be from tyre kickers and time wasters. People who like the idea of having thier carpets and furnishings cleaned but never get round to it.

I dont think having forcing people to disclous thier website on sign up is not going to make a differance to the fake profiles. You could easly pick a cleaning website that doesn;t belong to you.

The only real way of stopping fakers is for mod to validate every new sign up with a filled in profile including real name etc (doesn't have to be made public), maybe allowing for a call back on the phone. << but how likley is that to happen....

i remember when i signed up on the other chanel (cleantalk) it took a couple of emails to the admin to confirm who i was before i could join and though there are not anywhere near the same numbers on that chanel there does'nt seem to be the same level of interferance either.

it's not full disclosure i would like, not bothered about web sites etc just a real name instead of 'nick-names'. nothing more annoying than replying to a post with a mickey mouse name, what's to hide?
