Tell 'em it's not just about the size of the surface area of glass to be cleaned, it's more about access.  Cleaning a 1 meter square piece of glass at ground level is going to be a heck of a lot easier than cleaning it when it's at (for example) 40 foot from the ground.

Tell 'em it would be far more sensible to want a quote for the whole job, rather than on a meter squared basis.

ok maybe I am being dim but I said divide not multiply, i.e. 750 square meter divided by £150 = £5 a square meter or am I missing something  here, if I am I will hold my hands up and say I am wrong

Any building bigger than 100 sqm here is usually priced by sqr mtr. Standard prices vary from state to state. But in the area I live in, the average price per sqr mtr is from €1.35 to €1.75 per sqr mtr inside and out. This system of pricing helps to work out how long a job should take with how many people working on it. Prices will vary also for high work and access etc etc

The maths I've seen in this thread mean that it wouldn't be a good idea for some of you to use this system.

750 mtes at 5 quid a mtr would be 3750 quid!!!!! The correct sum is 150 quid divided by 750 mtrs. 20p a mtr. Crap price!!!!

25p per sqr mtr. You lot up in Scotland must earn millions a year!!

Sounds like a weird way to have to price.  The glass area is only one thing to consider.  It could probably be done that way if you were pricing masses of work (and I do mean a heck of a lot) because it would probably average out Ok - but not for anything less.

It's the only system used here Paul. I've done a massive hospital in a town called Minden here in Boxheadland mate. It has access problems, height problems etc etc. If you price correctly on a building as big as that (8000 sqr mtrs) it all works out. Never had a bad price off this system yet. If a building has 300 sqr mtrs, without a system in place, 2 people could have a price difference of 400% or more.

I read earlier this year about pricing in UK. I thought then, that it was guess work at best. Sqr mtr pricing allows people who are crap at maths get the price right. (Me)

Here's the town hall (Rathaus) in a town called Clarholz that we clean every 3 months. What you can see at the front picture is about half of the total glass. The job is insides and out. No ladder work really as all windows here open inwards. We have the exact sqr mtr measurements and we charge by the sqr mtr. 586 sqr mtr.

How long would this job take to do?? No ladders needed, no WFP, inside and out?

Now maybe it makes sense.

I wasn't trying to give an example of the price, only of how to work out the method of pricing, I just plucked the numbers out at random, although it seems I got my sums the wrong way round but that isn't surprising as I had been in the pub all afternoon
