not too worried about it

was a house I took over as part of a round i bought last july

Vicarage with 16 windows, 1 set of patio doors and 3 other doors so not a small house.

used to be done trad  until i went wfp in november

and was charged at the princely sum of ....... £12 told them it was going up to £13 from next month so whilst mrs vicar is writing cheque in doorway of house shes saying .... ""mmmm will have to think about if i still want them doing ..... mmmm a pound extra .. not too sure"" .... obviously waiting for me to say oh ok i was only kidding about the extra but just stayed silent then before i could say ok will take u off my round she told me too leave it from now on.

Sure they will find another windie who will do it for a few times at £12 but if they come back to me then will be £18 as they are now being priced as a new contract

oh and last time the cheeky mr vicar accused me of just splashing water on the floor to make it look like id cleaned them !!!!!! was tempted there and then to tell him to find a new window cleaner but put him on an immediate 3rd strike instead .... guess they didnt like the pole

You always loose a few when you put the prices up but thats OK because you don't usually loose that many.

The vindictive part of me is smiling at this post because you just know that they're going to have problems finding a cheap window cleaner to clean their windows at £12 or less.

I've had a similar situation in the past, and it was a property I didn't like because of really awkward access everywhere.  I put their price up, they dropped me.

Since then, these ex customers have asked their neighbours to ask me if I would take them back as customers because they can't find a window cleaner who is regular.  They've had at least two others since they dropped me.  Access is really a pain because they have a narrow path which they fill with bikes, lawnmowers, etc and then you need ladders because of a massive flat roof.

I always refuse, because the price increase still wasn't worth the awkward access issues, so I decline; stuff 'em.  It keeps their neighbours loyal too.

Some customers don't realise that they're lucky to have a regular window cleaner till the point comes when they can't find one.

Sadly, IMO human nature being what it is, you will always loose.

The Vicar will be telling everyone how he dealt with the window cleaner who splashed water on the ground to give the impression that he cleaned the windows (his audience will understand that as fact) and how he then had the cheek to ask for a higher price.
So this will be the talking point amongst his 'flock' during the next couple of months - its a good subject of conversation and he will score 'brownie' points everytime the subject is raised - he becomes the hero.

As most Vicars spend a large part of their Sunday Sermon preaching politics, there should be no reason why your cunning, greedy ways should not become a source for a sermon topic over the next few weeks either.

He may even have difficulty getting a new window cleaner who maybe more expensive, but he will quietly justify the higher price because you didn't do the job properly as far as he is concerned. Even if you get a phone call to come back again in a couple of months, he will always want to 'save face' and will remain tight lipped so will never tell his original audience that he was wrong. Some of those may even continue to believe his story because of never being told anything different.

As the expression goes - even after the skunk has been removed, his presence will be smelt for a long time after.

How do some of you guys price up your work?  To me 16 windows = £16 minimum, 1 patio door = £2 minimum, 3 doors = £3 minimum,  by my calculations that comes to £21 (which I would round up to £25) How on Earth did anyone price it at £12??? Its beyond me!!!!!!!

This usually happens with price rises, its actually a good thing imo.

What you usually end up with is approximately the same money (or slightly more) money per month but for fewer customers (because you lose a couple).

You can then fill that space with better paying customers, so you have more money per month.

I put prices up every year without fail.
