Hi Gents (& Ladies??),

As a newcomer to the industry, I'm looking to get some training under my belt before I pick up a wand.  My problem is that I have everything in place to start trading early-mid may, but there is not a 2 day course (with Prochem) until June - which I really cannot wait until. 

There is however a 1 day course at the beginning of May - my question is this: How much more useful is the two day course to a newbie, as opposed to the 1 day course? I was also considering doing the one day course, followed the next day with the upholstery course (although lots of the material looks the same).

If any of you have any recent experience of the course (or if you are planning on attending also?) then please get in touch.

Even some hands on with an already established carpet cleaner will be of benefit to you. I'm sure there will be someone on here close enough (but not too close) who will take you out for some experience. If you can get down to Cornwall, I'd help....

Forget the official 'training', just go out a few times with a good carpet cleaner, and if you're really lucky find one that also does repair work, then you'll double your income overnight...

Not too far down the road at the National Flood School in Farnham theres an IICRC course at the start of May.  I went recently and fully recommend it.

second that, went the flood training course and enjoyed it and the trainer is the same i think as the carpet and upholstery, adam janawakkasakowosowski. top bloke, knows his stuff

Thanks for the feedback so far, if there are any cleaners in the South Wales\South West region that wouldn't mind a newbie tagging along for a day or two then please get in touch (I make a mean cup of tea!).

I've checked the IICRC website, and there is a Carpet Cleaning Technician course on the 3rd/4th May which is great timing for me - but I can't find any info on costs or a syllabus for the course!

Ideally, I would like to complete some formal training, as well as getting some hands-on experience before I begin.

Again, thanks for all the replies, this forum has been very helpful in my research so far.

Just booked the flood school Carpet Cleaning Technician course for 3rd/4th May.  Found a Travellodge for £21 for the night, bargain! Thanks again for all your help gents, very much appreciated.

I'm not trading yet, just trying to get everything in place so that I can hit the ground running once training is complete

By that, I mean that for me to design a basic website (complete amateur!) And get fliers etc done can take a while, so while my website has been uploaded, its only to make sure that I don't get any last minute hiccups, and the site is not advertised at all as yet.

Yes, I believe that any sales/service industry relies on word of mouth referals, so I don't want to start burning any customers from the off!

Ash white....good stuff mate...i like you have taken the same route into the industry...training first etc.. and getting the foundations in place website etc....so you not only hit the ground running but hit it in a professional manner....i've been going about 6 weeks and had some positive feedback already...i got a local course to me (1day) and then did the 2 day NCCA course as it fitted in with my going live date...i'm still looking for further training as i belive with everything in life no body knows everything there is always stuff to learn and improve....good luck..

i too could benefit from going out with an experienced hand so if anyone wants to offer i'll be grateful...i'm in the north east..but will travel ..

Ash - sounds like you've got a plan going - well done.

You need to be careful using that logo on your site though.  Even once you've passed the exam its you personally who is certified by the IICRC.  Before you start using their logo on marketing etc your company has to become a certified firm which costs about an extra £100 a year.

I am thinking about it but, a bit like NCCA, does it actually mean anything to anyone outside the industry
