Does any 1 know if i need to sign off b4 i can register as self employed i just phoned the j.c they told me to ask nxt time im in which is monday i want to know now

You can't register as being self-employed until you have done your 1st day's work . Then just phone up HMRC and let them know.

No i havent started yet. i can claim working tax credits once im registered s.e but i dont no if i need to sign off b4 i can register if i need to sign off im gonna have a gap without any income which will also put me in a hole with my rent im ready to start but want to make sure all the offical stuf is in place first

just go knocking and see what work you get and then declare this to the jbb centre and they will tell you when to sign off,  when u sign off then go self employes you are allowed to work 15.59 hours and earn 102 before you have to sign off

that makes sense but i need to be earning at least 200 a wk just to cover the rent and feed the kids

you have to inform hmrc within 3mths of the date that you start s.e. so if you start monday then as long as you tell them within 3mths you are ok

if you live in a rented house you can still get housing benefit if you are self employed,  they just reaccess you every so often

phone the hmrc helpline and ask them, they tend to be more helpful than the job centre, but I can't see a problem registering now before you sign off as long as you declare any money earned when you signed off, if indeed you intend earning before monday

cheers stu i keep gettin the run around hmrc told me i need to contact the j.c then the woman there told me just to ask on monday its doin my head in they dont want you working on the side yet they dont want to help you when your trying to do every thing legit

i was told by hmrc that you must register as soon as you go self employed and that this three month rule is out dated! be carefull

the plan is to register s.e then claim working tax credits until i earn more then w.t.c hope fully i can register s.e b4 signing off other wise im gonna have no income for how ever long it takes for the w.t.c to be sorted out plus the rent will get stopped during the gap which is debt i could do with out

wtc will take 6 weeks,  hb benefit wont stop it just gets ajusted,   just run as normal and declare what u earn to dole till you are earning to much this is the best option for you,
