Here's a rough layout, just for the purposes of showing off the back of my van!

When we're pumping water out of the tank, it'll create a vacuum; so how does air get into the tank?  I can't see any valve, like what you'll find in the top of a shurflo backpack that lets air in as water is used, so what's the score with this? 

Now that was the easy question!

Drill a hole in the fill cap, then screw in a male hoselock fitting, the same fitting as you screw on to an outside tap.

I have this on my tank and the water doesn't escape when it slushes about.

the tank I got from peter fogwill had a breather that had a pipe that you tucked up high on the roof so water didn't over spill

I wondered about it with this tank and drilled tiny holes in the lid, but they leak when the tank is full, not badly though.

But I like Matts idea better

No, it was from the Cleaning Warehouse.  They sell a flow controller that also doubles up as a split charge relay and charges up the battery that powers your pumps.  So I bought one of them and a cheaper varistream unit.

Matt, thanks mate.  And if it did leak, I guess I could attach a female with a bit of hose and attach it high like Stu's description of Peters.  Or I could numptyise the top of my shurflo backpack lid!

I see you've got the claber reels.  I find with mine that because they have a smooth action, when unreeling they can overrun and  the microbore has a tendency to jump off the reel and get trapped down the side of the handle.
I have a small length of foam pipe insulation (2.5" the wide version) covered in gaffer tape on each side, which stops this and acts as a damper for the overrun.  Have to replace the foam every couple of months.

I drilled a small hole in the lid, glued a Jhon Guest fittin in and stuck a foot of 1/4 inch ro pipe in it, bit like a motorcycle petrol tank has on a dirt bike.

I have same issue with my cox reels, absolutely smooth as, to reel in. But if you pull those hoses out too fast, you'll turn round to find an enormous pile of yellow spaghetti lying on the ground at the back of the van!

400 litres, Paul.  My max load weight thingy is 815 kg.  I'm not sure if a 500 litre tank would've been better, but RZ kindly gave me the 400 litre one for nowt; he even delivered it for me.

Wor Lass tends to only like to work from 9 till 2, so there's no problem (I don't think) with me topping up when I drop her home, if need be, and 80% of my work is within a 4 mile radius of where I live.

I've also purchased flow controllers and aquadapters because I think they'll help conserve water usage when we're working, so hopefully 400 litres will usually be enough.

What do you reckon?

I just undo the lid slightly before I turn the pump on...

i never had a problem with air.no holes in lid any thing.
