Did a few and found out later that still residue bird poo on one.  How do you ensure they are 100% clean from ground or is it a case of you do your best but can't guarantee results? I said I would clean sills and frames but lacking confidence on top sills.

angle the brush and give a good scrub, on first cleans i ask the custy to check they are happy with whats
been done.

I've been angeling brush and can ask customer on first cleans but on maintenance cleans they may not be in and there may be fresh bird poo.  Do you have to leave some without the customer checking its ok before you go?

well if its fresh then it will most certainly wipe off without any problems.

( the only one that wont is duck poo )

there are tell tale signs if the sill has had a strike - ie some on window - front lip of sill or the wall by the window.

Not many people would check their upstairs window sills, so I personally wouldn't ask the customer to check 'em; it smacks of insecurity.

Just do a 'best effort' and move on.  I've only ever had one complaint about an upstairs window sill, and that was about 8 years ago and I was trad.

I offer a guarantee but have decided to say that this does not apply on first cleans or sills above ground floor level.  I've been worrying about this too much so will just, as you say, do my best.

I would have to disagree with this idea.

Offer them a guarantee.  Clean as well as you can.  If they have a complaint, go along and redo them and learn from it.  A guarantee with conditions is not going to enthuse your customers.  And think it through: someone calls after their first clean and complains.  Are you really going to tell them they're stuffed and that they'll just have to live with it?

I take your point Vin.  I may reconsider on first cleans but the top sills seems very hit and miss.  If you can't see what you're cleaning then its difficult to know where to focus. 

Do you get many complaints re top sills?

How do you know you have cleaned all the muck off without seeing it?

im trad,but have thought about this before,just got look for tell tale signs like smuger said

iv got a few houses where birds sit above the window on sky dish or pole and the sill is minging i sometimes have to use a scraper as it rock hard so you cant guarrentee its going be fully gone with wfp

CALM DOWN! as been said do your best, thats it. I have never had an issue with a customer about this. and for the first 2 yrs wfp i wasnt even attempting to clean top sills as i told custys couldnt do them anymore. but then realised i could quite easily give the sills a wipe. but i honestly didnt do top sills for 2 years!
