For the trad people who charge extra for frame wipe-downs
« on: April 05, 2011, 07:33:54 pm »
Hi Everyone,

Just wondering what you would charge? Say you charge £1 a window and the custy wanted a UPVC frame wipe-down, would you charge something like £1.50 a window or just add an extra £5 on top of the normal bill?

Cheers, Rex.

You should clean the frame and sill as standard and quote accordingly

Include frames and sills as standard!! A window isn't just the glass so why only clean half of it!!

I'm trad. I wipe the frames and wash the sills every time.

He wants to know how much extra to charge for frames, not how you clean a window.

Only asking, but why do some people think "window" cleaning is only for the glass part.
If you ordered a "new window" from a double glazier for your house and they turned up with a pane of glass, would you be amused?

Your price should reflect the whole window, not just parts of it, so make sure you add it in in the initial quote.  :)

On a first clean, trad, I'd wipe everything down and do a spanking good job.  Then on subsequent cleans I really wouldn't touch the frames; they're still clean.

At some later stage - maybe many months later - I'd think, 'Those frames need cleaning' and give 'em a wipe.

Some windows, without moving the ladder twice (which I didn't do), I couldn't safely reach to some parts of the frames with a cloth, but could clean the glass with a squeegy (the top part of a large sash windows for eg); so these frames I never cleaned.

I'm not an overly fussy window cleaner, and I don't get complaints (or it's very rare; I can't remember off-hand when my last one was (two years ago maybe?) - so my advice would be not to be overly fussy otherwise you won't turnover as much as you could.

I bet most customers don't even notice, and you will know your customers who're are picky and like a spanking good job.

I'm as fussy as my customers (within reason).

Anyway, I've got to go and get some new spurs; I've worn these ones out. ;D

I do them my way not yours. If anyone wants their frames or facia or guttering cleaning I charge extra.Price depends on the house. If its just the window frames I charge at least double.

I quote for glass and sills, with frames is double as it takes me twice as long.

To be honest i'd rather tell customers that the frames and sills are included in the price. At the moment I price £1 a window, £1.50 for a french window ext, however it takes me loads longer to clean the frames as well. Then again I'm only a noob so I'm going to be slow for now and as I only window clean part time It's going to take me longer to speed up. I just think £1.50-£2.00  window seems pricey compared to other window cleaners around here but what the hell do I know! I'm just a noob!

100% trad.Sills and frames wiped down every time included in the price .If i didnt wipe frames and sills and customer requested this i would charge an extra 50% on top of the price for cleaning the glass.
