Sorry winpro but I can't go along with that kind of blasé approach when it comes to Motor Insurance or anything to do with insurance re: business ie PL EL etc. In this present climate of claims and blame you really can't afford to take the risk or indeed put your family and home at risk.

The bottom line is I know premiums rise each year but a rise of £250 in my opinion is taking the P.
I'm prepared to pay the extra £100 or so to get the cover required.

You say don't mention it but it is your responsibility to ensure all the info you give to the insurers is factual.

All the people I've spoke to today when you mention window cleaning they ask if you have a tank if so what size.

Give the Insurers half the chance on not paying out and they will. Especially in this climate.

I know where you are coming from RE: anchor points etc and it's feckin annoying that a tank is different from a pallet of bricks.

Not having a go at you mate just think we are having a different view on things.

I've been with Direct Line for years, NEVER have they EVER asked me anything about my tank. No where in any questions either online or by phone do they ever mention anything about my tank!

They always ask if the van has any modifications, which it hasn't!

What's blase about that? Just plain facts, no lies, no porkies, no wool over the eyes, Nothing!

Maybe if I ever decide to use cheap, rubbish, budget tyres I should ring them & inform them, just to make sure they don't want to use it as an excuse to hike my premium! ::) ;D

What's a modification?  Carrying a tank surely can't be a modification, can it?  Drilling holes through the chassis would be a mod, obviously, but not a tank full of water strapped in; no more than a bucket of water bungeed to the wheel arch.

I got myself one weeks worth of insurance when I went to pick up the van, (£26), but how best is it done if you have a car as well?

Do you have to have separate insurances for either vehicle, or can you get them both insured by the same company?

How's it best to do this?

What exactly is the mod' George?

I secure a plastic tank with proper ratchet straps to the manufacturers anchor points. This is to secure the tank in transit.

I have van & car both with Direct Line. You get 10% off for this BUT they also give me the cheapest and best cover every year!

Where I live goes in my favour though.

if its bolted in then classed as modification, if its fitted by ratchet straps etc then thats not a modification, i think thats because if its not bolted in then it can be removed quite easily (ish) so not a mod,

Thanks George.  I misunderstood your earlier post; I thought you were saying that winpro's strapped in tank was a modification; so thanks for the clarification.

Pay the premium then dude & stop moaning! ;D

I'll tell 'em I'm a convicted armed robber too when I renew. I'm not of course, but just incase I ever did decide to rob a bank in the future- best be safe than sorry! ;D ;D ;D

They never asked, nor do I get the option to declare whether I'm trad or WFP. However, if I'm feeling a bit flush I might just declare that I speed now & then, that'd be good! ;)

I've had a weeks worth of temporary insurance I got from the interweb to pick my van up, so this afternoon I've been phoning around, and using the internet to get some insurance.

I was declined by two companies (Direct Line being one of them) because I have 6 points both picked up in close proximity, and maybe because I was involved in an accident (someone ran into the back of me; I wasn't to blame and no claim was made on my insurance).

The cheapest I could find was about £550 from the interweb, but another company who asked me about water tanks gave me a quote for £600, so I went with them.

Tools aren't insured; that would've been another £150 or so, so I declined.  I plan to lock my poles up securely and my van is parked off-road, behind a gate (or it will be when I get the gate sorted); so I'm not too bothered about that.

I didn't know my no-claim bonus from my car doesn't count (though they said it gets taken into consideration).

I've never ever claimed off any car/vehicle insurance company ever in 23 years of driving.

I dislike dealing with insurance companies!  ;D
