OK I just received my renewal and they have stuck another £250 on last years policy.

Currently with Motor Direct. Any recommendations for a good deal.

Do they cover you for having a tank as a lot of companys I spoke to bumped the price up or wouldnt insure due to this..

Spent All day so far searching for quotes.. Still at it now.

Seems to be a big problem with 600 ltr tank in the back.

Looking at the prices I've been quoted looks like I'll have to pay up
(or should I say my custys will have to pay up price rise coming up me thinks)

Not with EQ Red Star with Highway. Broker told me all Eq Red Star policy have shot up.

Need to careful with comparison sites and online direct sites E.G Churchill Direct Line. They dont allow you to input all the data needed to be fully covered.

I rang churchill today questioning the price and policy they served up on the www site. after 3 calls to confirm the price quoted online was correct it transpired they where unable to quote me.. Why?

Get ready for this!

Because one day I may do 5 windows and another day i may do 15. And on the day I was cleaning 15 I would be rushing around to earn more money and therefor would be a high risk so they wouldn't insure. OMFG I've heard it all.

Just to note!

The info I gave on the first two calls to Churchill, twice they said everything was fine.  But I wasn't convinced they were understanding the cover I required. ( young 20 year old girls with their minds on what they are going to wear tonight at the pub springs to mind)

Car and Home are insured with Churchill and they came back with a great price but as above you really need to check and double check they have the right info. At first they were just questioning the value of the tank and this is what led me to think they have the wrong end of the stick.

My policy is fine. My van has not been modified, the tank is strapped in with the factory load anchors. This is why I asked you how your tank is fixed?

yes they know they me  told some companies are fine with it they made a phone call

We used Gladiator this year, best price by far using the usual comparison sites, and a quick chat on the phone to make sure all contents was covered and got the price down a bit with bartering.

It's not about how the tank is fixed apparently. It's the carriage of the load. It baffles me. My tank at the mo is strapped with two 5 t straps to vans anchor points. But if your a builder you could place a pallet of bricks in the back and everything is OK. To me it just seems like they are jumping on the band wagon to get extra cash out of us.

When I first started no one ever asked about tanks, now they treat you like a criminal if you have one.

Always worth a try and will give direct line a call tomorrow.

A plan best for me still, even though jumped to 600 from 450. this yr inc system. Just insured a VW T5 camper for 250! getting ripped off springs to mind

Well don't mention it then. You're just handing them a reason to bump the price. You're carrying a load using the manufacturers anchor points & you are carrying weight below the manufacturers stated payload. Your load is not explosive, corrosive or a health hazard. THEY DON'T NEED TO KNOW! You're a tradesman carrying a load to carry out your work.

I bet when builders ring up they don't stand there telling them what they are carrying around in the back every day! Or joiners, or plumbers, or landscape gardeners etc etc.

Taking the above into consideration (you're doing nowt wrong or untoward) what would their defence be in the event they refuse to pay out after an accident- "we're not paying 'cos you were carrying something heavy"!!

You'd be fully insured now & for a lot less money if you weren't influenced by over cautious twerps on here!!
