I drove a 53 plate for two years and it was a very hard wearing van wth no problems at all.

Cost wise hardly anything was spent on it.

Great van in the end it did its job

My brother bought a brand new Relay back in 2003. He had no end of problems with it...power steering pump, clutch and electrical faults, He ended up taking Citroen Uk to court and he got all his payments refunded.

The thing I find with almost any vehicle is that some people say 'that's a great vehicle', and others say 'don't touch it, they're terrible'.

In the end, with a second hand motor, I think it comes down to checking it over as thoroughly as you can and a big wadge of luck.

i agree tosh your always going to hear horror stories and on the other hand stories of pleasure who cant critisise the motor at all, like you say its absolute luck, i just wanted to know if any one knew of any common problems with these vans such as the gearbox problems on vivaros/traffics etc

Go for larger turbo version as non turbo is very sluggish.

I agree. I bought a '99 Fiesta 1.8 diesel van a year ago. Body is excellent for its age, and it drove really well on the way home (Leicester to Kent). However, since then it had needed a new battery, alternator, clutch, gearbox, 4 tyres, and a full service.
It's all good now, although I will be even happier once I get the cambelt done.

I think any van that size is going to be heavy on fuel.

That's a truck, not a van!   :o

How many window cleaners will be living in and working out of that?

No chance, we have a Fiat Ducato (same as Relay) and it is much much bigger than a vivaro and traffic. Obviously transits come in many different sizes.

I've also got Fiat Scudo's which looks tiny but I've fitted a metal racking systems that came out of vivaro's with room to spare
