my first system never had them and the pump is just fine. In fact i might just ditch the one I have on now as it doesn't do anything, I mean who much dirt can be in water that is already 000ppm

do you not get much algae in your tank stu? it doesnt affect tds but can bugger your pump. mine needs a good spring clean as we speak. looks like the Hulk has offloaded his population paste in my tank

yes you defo want fuses i blew up a digital varistream a few years ago... I hadnt even earnt a tenner from it!
