turning down conny roof cleans!
« on: March 30, 2011, 08:13:30 am »
turned 2 down over the last couple of weeks!one woman told me last time she had a guy clean hers it leaked badly.i said have you had it fixed?she said err no!!

the other one was a roof where the panels are virtually flat with hardly any fall so are a bugger to clean!usually have to stand half way up a ladder with a pole.can do without the strain!!

do any of you guys turn down these jobs?

i dont mind the  pitched polycarbon roofs that are easy access(even if its really green!) or the odd regular glass roof jobbie but some of the awkward ones are too much like hard work and increase the risk of straining and injury esp with having a lot of regular maintenance window cleaning to be getting on with usually.

i have this service advertised on my van/calling/business cards but its smaller than WINDOW CLEANING which stands out much more.

ive sacked off the whole gutter clearing thing!i always hated doing them and ive nearly fell off a few times clearing them out!!

so guys any of you find yourself saying "no!"instead saying yes to every add on job?

I also turn down the lean to type of roof, it is just too much hassle to get a decent finish without the fall to rinse away the dirt.

didnt you use a ladder stand off when you use to do gutter cleaning if not then thats just dangerous as you would be leaning backwards,

i try not turn jobs down but hate pricing big pvc cleaning jobs that mite take a couple of days to do trad

yes dazmond, i turn down every fascia, sofit & gutter clean i get asked to do. too much like hard work with just wfp, i need one of those telescopic presure washers before i think about doing em, and gutter clearance jobs, i turn these down too. untill the day comes i decide to buy a gutter-vac.

i have also tuned down a few conny roofs in the past especially if they were too hard to do

i remember turning down one:

she rang me up very late at night.

'getting married on sat and i want my con roof etc cleaned please'

ok ill do it friday ....

asked if she had an outside tap 'yes i do'

any damage or leaks that you no of 'no nothing'

i got there - and went straight inside as it started raining...

did a few of the insides windows, then i had rain dripping on my neck! looked up and i saw clear daylight thru the roof!!

and the same time one of my other guys says 'the tap dont work!'

so packed up and off we went.

rang her up - left a voice mail to explain the problem.

she never rang back - and to this day its still the same as we do a few doors down....

I try not to turn work down but if it is going to be difficult or just a PITA then I'll price it to the point I think it'll be a sweet job.

But people seem to think that the pole is a magic wand and think 'it'll only take you half and hour'.

The more I know the less I know I know ...

I never turn the work down, but if it looks like it would be hard work (no fall on roof etc) i put in a really silly price. If they say yes,
job's a good'un if no then just smile and walk away.  And when I mean silly I mean really silly

Why dont you pass them onto companies that do them and take a percentage?
If you get any in essex...well you know my number...  ;)

Nice website Dan, but you have missed out South Woodham Ferrers on the list, you cover Stow Maries, Battlesbridge and Danbury.

I have a window cleaning round in Essex covering Mid Essex, and covering the Dengie and Bradwell through to Chelmsford costs quite a bit in fuel each week.

If any of my customers require their conservatory to be cleaned I'll give you a bell as I hate conservatory cleans, I much prefer gutter cleans and window cleaning.

the problem is you might loose her on the window cleaning side  ??? thats why i price them normal and take a hit on them so they keep me on on the window cleaning latley been busy been putting alot away.

Daz, i turned down one the other day.

Went to quote as custy said wanted a regular window cleaner; when i got there could see access problems for rear of house, conny roof a bit akward as had to go next doors garden to get one side of roof.
when i gave price for roof and reg window clean lady said would be one off but must be done urgent! though.

Said i'd check diary, text'd next day to say sorry can't fit in.

I'm only really intrested in doing window cleaning as it's a lot easier; happy to do conny roof's for my regular customers for a fair price. (just my hourly rate)

Can only see conny roof cleans for non regular custy's being of use if done on wet days; but don't really fancy working in the rain.
