So Win, how do you stop the pole wearing at the bit where the clamps grip when collapsed?

Wipe the pole hose if the ground is wet everytime you put it back into the van. The newer Gardiner pole hose (although quite stiff when cold) is quite a small OD & seems to pick up much less dirt.
