When Canvassing...
« on: March 22, 2011, 10:08:16 am »
What do you think works best appearance wise?

1. Suit
2. Shirt and trousers
3. Shirt and jeans
4. Casual jumper with jeans and shoes
5. Orange tracksuit and cap to the side
6. Printed polo shirt, work trousers and trainers
7. Printed polo shirt, trousers, trainers and a belt with some gear on

I was thinking about number 7 as straight away they know who you are, whereas a suit or any other smarter clothes instantly makes them think your a salesman so it changes their perspective and they just want to close the door and they will have little interest in what you have to say?

Obviously number 1 could work but surely 6/7 could work better?

try it and find out -

i have been very successfull in jeans and a jacket - not too formal just "right" sorta thing not a hooded jacket just a smart warm one and get straight to the point.

I have been out in a suit and continue to do so and i think people take you that little bit more serious and don slam the door in your face - plus you can see the relief on their face when you ask them if they have a wc .

I think it also depends on where your canvassing.
If your canvassing an exclusive area then smart gear,if its the bronx then as "normal" as possible lol

In my experience, as long as you are clean and tidy, and speak politely, wear what you feel comfortable in.

That's what I did, and it worked OK.

these are walking shoes...

http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&xhr=t&q=walking+shoes&cp=10&pf=p&sclient=psy&site=&source=hp&aq=0&aqi=&aql=&oq=walking+sh&pbx=1&fp=6f4764bf0b70c4fb

they are (as you might have guessed) especially designed for walking in!

my opinion on no 7, yeah good idea, like you said at least they'll know your a windy straight away, but if you have embroidered work gear on this would do the same job!  ;)
