Record keeping for HMRC
« on: March 21, 2011, 09:03:27 pm »
Boring post lads-sorry

Do any of you have a template that I could copy for my income/expenditure?

Do you use George/Window Cleaning Pro?

Do you just scribble down daily earnings / money spent in a black and red pad?

Every business expense I have is bought on one dedicated credit card - including fuel. The receipts are kept in month order and at the end of the financial year put away for seven years then discarded.

Except DD from my business account to HMRC.
It's a game of three halves!

I use an A4 pad.  I record each individual amount collected on one page (actually about six sheets per month), and one page for expenses, the latter being recorded as follows:

Date    Payee   MVE  Wages  Insurance  Consumables  Stationery

MVE = Motor vehicle expenses (I claim at mileage rates)
Consumables = replacement materials + sustenance etc

I keep all receipts where available, in date order.

If done every day, it takes next to no time to keep up to date.

John.

Have a look at my post, made yesterday. It's simple and works for me.  :)

I use excel to keep track of my weekly earnings then, keep all my reciepts in date order, then give them all to my accountant and a print off of my earnings.
