Best stuff for smelly carpets?
«
on:
March 21, 2011, 03:35:58 pm »
I have a friend who recently moved and has a smelly carpet in a room.
I tried to clean the carpets with a crap cleaner and some cheap 1001 but they still smell.
Would that hoover up foam stuff be any good? Shaking vac is on them almost daily but they still have a slight stench.
Thanks in advanced.

shack and vac? lol
tbh you should really get a pro in to have a look as they may also be able to identify why there is a smell and get that dealt with also .

carpet smell of carpet, which is not a bad smell, the bad smell your friend is getting is from all the other dirt, food, dust, ash etc that is in the carpet.
Vacuum like mad with a proper vaccum cleaner, and/or get a cleaner in.
Skate and vac will just cover the smell, the 'orrible stuff will still be left in the carpet.

Its not really worth getting someone in, they need replacing this year its just until than.
I think its where I used an old carpet cleaner that wasn't sucking up the dirty water properly so it kinda spread the dirt around rather than removed it and the carpets were soaked after so its left a dampish smell.
I will probs just get a rug doctor from Morrisons and do the whole flat for the time being, just wanted to know if the foam stuff would be worth buying until than as I have moved away from the area and they keep moaning about it.
Cheers.

The shampoo you get with rug doctors doesn’t work at the recommended dosage. Make sure you double the recommended dosage. I find tipping the neat shampoo over the carpet first then running the doctor over it with a weak solution of fairy liquid works quite well.

Cheers buddy!
Its quite expensive stuff, I guess that's where they make most the money when renting!
I may just use 1001 as its worked wonders in the past before the old fella stopped sucking properly.

I think Matt is winding you up! Rug Dr and fairy are very sticky and foam up incredibly so I would buy some Zoflora from Boots it costs about £1 follow dilution rates and spray it on with a plant sprayer.
In an ideal world I would apply shampoo to a carpet first by spraying it on and quite hot which makes it more active and allow it just to settle in and then put a weak dilution in the Rug Dr tank, clean as required and then spray Zoflora allow carpet to dry.
Shaun
PS Process looks like it takes longer but you'll find the machine cleaning is far less.

lol I guessed he was joking about the fairy but the double dosage sounded believable.
Colin, get a life!
Shaun, thanks for the tips. Did not think of Zoflora, used that when helping a bin cleaner friend and it smells lovely.

No other carpet cleaning machine has earnt itself a pHd, people may laugh, but this thing is a doctor.
My mother was so proud when she asked me what my chosen path in life would be. My reply "doctor".

I heard it changed career as it worked on the maternity ward and cleaning the carpets were a nightmare so he decided he could do a better job.
Few years on, created a cloning machine and now hes everywhere!!!
