sure they pay them min wage and you  have them for 6 months or so. One of my commercial jobs were telling me about it

It was done through my local council they don't all do it you would need to check, I think the job centres do it as well. I got my lad free of charge for a about 3 months then 75% of wages paid then 50% then 25% then he was my reponsability  so in all around 6 months until I had to pay him in full. He came with first aid, manual handling and customer care, the council also funded a ladder safety course, cscs card for us both(I passed he failed) and they got him an NVQ in window cleaning all this at no cost to me.

had to have a chat with the council health and safety and answer a few questions, take out employers liability and he gave me a health and safety poster that I didn't have and a first aid kit I didn't have, they also provided him with my uniform and pouches and 20 microfibres and boots as per PPE

and no me and the lad have parted company I might try again in the future but for now I will go it alone.

but on the plus side I kept all the first aid kit, health and safety poster and I have a cscs card.

oh they also paid his license fee

dealt with that type in factories many a time and some were not kids  either.

That sounds like Wor Lass; she's on a day off today! The thing is, she'll run a mountain marathon in December, when the rain is coming down sideways and it's freezing cold, over scree, mud, rocks, etc.

But unless she can be bothered, she won't work.

yes had to do the national insurance but as he was only 17 and on min wage there was no tax. employers liabilty/public liability totalled around £500, other hidden costs well yes if you pick him up and drop him off remember the fuel and time being lost. this was a few years ago now and the budgets may have been slashed so best check your council or business link for advice
