Calling all Excel boffins
« on: March 05, 2011, 08:58:08 pm »
Hi Boffins,

When i download my bank statements for reconcilliation in wcp they come in a file that ends csv.

This opens in excel, but some of the cells are not wide enough to read the info, such as the senders reference.I know how to widen it by putting the arrow on the top of the column.

If i can't figure out who sent some money- lets say it says smith 10 i like to highlight it with a colour change.I know how to do that too.

The problem is that when i save the file, close and reopen it, all the bits i did are lost and it's back as i first had it.So my question is how do i save it to include my changes?

I did figure out a solution today.I open a new worksheet and copy and paste the download into it.This does work because i just tried it.I just wondered if any of you brain boxes had a better way?

Sounds about right, or import the data into your normal sheet, rather than double clicking it and opening it.  When you import you can also select what to import and how to layout the data.

Yes thanks dave, just tried it and that works as 2004 excel file.

It reopens with everything i did still there.

Import seems to work too.

never done this before and a bit complex, but probably simple when you are used to it.
