Any advice on bleaching?
« on: March 02, 2011, 07:54:10 pm »
Evening all,

Went to remove some stains today in various rooms on a boat and after putting tea/coffee/wine spotter on a wool carpet found they had no power in the room sockets even though the lights were on.
I couldnīt get the product out quickly enough and now have white stains on a cream carpet. I have someone coming to look at recolouring tomorrow but wondered if anyone has a better idea.

Needless to say I am not best pleased so any advice gratefully received.

Cheers

Dave

if its really bleached the colour out then I would probably try some heat set fabric crayons / pens and

set with an iron, if its cream then not too much of a contrast in colour, at least this way you can play

around with it a bit until the colour is right and then set it.

as soon as you realised there was no power you should have chemically neutralised it to stop the bleaching action.

what bleach did you use an oxidiser or reducer? and did you use an accelerant?

Thanks Steve,
I have a guy who can spray it with colour but i donīt know how it will set. The crayons sound good, any ideas where i can source them as I have never needed anything like this in the past.

Mike,

It was only the spotter which caused the problem. I tested in another room with the same carpet and knew I had to remove quickly with the machine. When I had no power I turned into a headless chicken and just tried to get the power on quickly. Big lesson learned about keeping the other chemicals with me to rinse in case of emergencies.

Many thanks
