Hi All,

I have just got a job to clean the flooring and the CEILING of a Chinese Restaraunt Kitchen.

The Ceiling are those removable tiles, they were white but now are yellow from grease and steam, any ideas of how to clean them quickly and properly.  I will have to do about 200 of them.  They are 12" X 12" each.

With 200 to do, I doubt that any method will be particularly quick. And this is not your fault. Its whoever has let the place get in to such a state. The cost of correcting lack of cleaning/maintenance etc is usually the sum of the costs that would have been incurred if it had been done on a regular basis.

What are these tiles made of ?

Are you proposing to take them off-site to clean them or just do it in the restaurant ?

The only 2 options I can think of are

a) depending on substance, soaking in water with a heavy duty degreaser & then rinsing off.

b) using a steam machine

Presumably the slats or frame that hold the tiles in place will need to be cleaned too. This will be awkward and messy too as I assume you will have to work of a ladder or some sort of platform.
More and more places like this are using that cladding which is a lot easier to clean and maintain.

I hope its worth it.

hi there,

there are two or three companies, that actually repaint these tiles, they go into a closed shop, sheet it all down work overnight then leave, apparently its cheaper than reaplacing them.

if i remeber correctly, the paint on the tiles originally has a fire prevention quality, and that can be removed if not done properly.

these companies respray the tiles, and renew them.

ps saying that we were going to have to do a job where we took all the tiles out, washed both sides and refitted, our client told his landlord to take a running jump, too expensive.

Thanks for that,

4 of us are going in at 1am Saturday morning  to do the Job,  We are going to do the tiles on site and yes will have to do the slats that are holding on the tiles,  Im expecting to have tired and sore arms on Saturday.

Thanks for the input, most likely to use a strong degreaser and rinse off in the sinks in the kitchen.
