Days lost thru bad weather?
« on: February 23, 2011, 10:26:09 am »
Hi everybody,

How many days a month do you normally lose (on average) due to bad weather?

Thanks,

Dave

A bit of rain + laziness = time off work.

A bit of rain + motivation = ££££

It's laziness that gets me, not the weather.

Normally, 4 or 5 days per month but Jan and Feb are worse. We have had minus 6 to 8 here for the last 4 days. We don't work in heavy rain either.

Since my rain guarantee went into opration I cover my round (about 2.8 to 3.1K) (excluding holidays) every month in about 14 full working days - which includes part days due to heavier rain, ice, snow (and laziness ;D) etc and seems to give me time off from March to September and I struggle in December through February. Pre warming the water helped me work more this past December/January than the previous ones yet in worse conditions.

My rain guarantee seems to let me work an extra two/three days a month (I went from working in a strictly no rain basis to a light patchy drizzle basis to a light rain basis over the last two years and my income has increased by £500 per month in that period.

It's a game of three halves!

Days lost due to lack of proper sleep for sometimes weeks on end. I can't count them anymore. It's doing my head in. Today, I don't have any energy left. Bad night again, super light sleep, bad dreams, feels like I've only slept half an hour. :-\

£40 for an hour and a halfs work.better than nothing i suppose!the joys of window cleaning eh?

yesterday it rained nearly all afternoon but it wasnt heavy so i got a full day in.monday was cold and wet when i went to leave at 830am so sacked it off and went swimming instead.

tommorrow looks better but i will have to finish at 3pm as going out at 5pm for my dads birthday(he s 65!).

i will try and work all day friday and saturday but the forecast looks grim!!! :( :(

its hard to motivate yourself when the weathers dull and damp esp when your bills are paid with money in the bank!!

I lose a lot less time to the weather than I used to.  Up to and including moderate rain is fine for me.  I do draw the line at freeze-ups (below -2), strong winds, or if it's hissing down hard.  I've taken a bit of time out this week because my back is playing up (much better today so will be out there tomorrow).   Normally, I gently work through a bad back as it gets better but I just didn't fancy it this time.  I suspect it was triggered by a long coach journey on Saturday (went to Old Trafford).  Next time I do a coach journey, I think the middle would be better as you get bounced more in the very back.  I would still have gone there though even had I known my back would play up.

Thanks guys, now I've got a rough idea of how many working days I can expect to lose, I've got more of an idea of what I can expect to earn.
