I know this question is like how long is a piece of string - but I am interested to know from windys who use a WFP trolley system how many houses they can clean in an hour

on my compact small 3 bed semi estate work i can clean 4 an hour at a steady pace.i have lots of super compact cheaper work that i can fly through now!

it really depends on whether your work is compact or spread out.if you have lots of sporadic work at cheap prices your not going to make enough money(or crap money!!)but if their good prices then 2 or 3 an hour will still bring in good money!

ive a mixture of both.

some days i earn more cleaning say 8 houses a day than cleaning 25 houses!!

i use a 50L TROLLEY and find 2 full barrels usually last me about 60 mins before needing changing.im 80% WFP/20%TRAD.

average 10-12 litres a house(small 3 bedders)on maintenance cleans.more if they have conservatories.

same here but with 3-4 bedders that are sort of compact you should probably look to do about 3

But id go for a figure per hour rather than x amount of houses, some houses take me all morning and some take 5 mins, its the money thats the important thing!

I am trying to work on my business plan and as I will be starting the business on a part time basis I was thinking of aiming for 12 - 14 properties per day.

So if the consensus of opinion is 3 per hour then I am looking at 4-5 hours work.

I was interested in Dazmonds comment about the water use - I dont have one of these systems yet but I did not realise they would use this level of water per property.

I need to work out how much water I need for 14 properties etc. How long does it take to create this amount of pure water? would anyone know?

lots of variables.


i use around 250-300L per day.sometimes only 175-200L depending  on what work im cleaning.


it takes around 50 mins to fill up at night using DI only.


my water tds is coming out at 35 from my tap and comes out at 000 after DI.

Remember that on first cleans you will use double if not treble the amount of water that you would on a regular clean. Will also take you longer too.

maybe it should be more like how much an hour.

does it matter if you do 14 small houses a day or 4 big country type houses = same income!

so try and earn £30 + per hour and you wont go wrong with that per day/per week ....


its hard to work out how much you could earn as every job is very different - one house could be priced at £15 with a average sized con and take 40 mins... but you could end up with a small commercial job that takes 40 mins and is priced up at say £80 odd...

Again interesting points. I was working on a day rate of £100 to begin with.

I was going to charge a minimum £8 - hence the 12 -14 per day

My problem is that I cant find a "reliable" answer in relation to the costs of running WFP trolley.

I am ok with van, fuel, insurance etc but the "actual" running costs once everything is paid for is much harder to forecast.

What are you going to do when the window cleaning doesn`t quite  match your business model? You need to get out of thinking mode and into action mode. Get on with it and worry about fine tuning later.

OK, Leaflets ordered, new coat with embroidered logo ordered - all should be here in next 7 days.

Then I am out canvassing for a week (booked off already) then when I know I can get the the customers I will look to order my system and a van

I have been planning this now for too long - I am just going to go for it and see what happens.

Why don't you start building your initial round via trad?    This way you may build a decent customer base to launch into WFP once you have some on the job experience and more importantly a bunch of loyal and patient customers.   You'll also have minimal overheads and set up costs.    Should things then not work out you'll not take too much of a hit.

Ian. I dont like ladders / heights.

I started a round about 25 yrs ago and worked as traditional. Loved the job, but hated climbing ladders so I jacked it in after 6 months and did something else.

With the introduction of WFP I am hoping this will work out fine.

I am happy to invest the money to make this work, I am happy to put the graft in to make this work and I am even happy to take the stick from other windys on here! 

The plan is to start part time maybe 4 - 5 hours per day - that will fit in nicely with what I do now.

The extra money will be very helpful as well, but I know I have to invest some of my savings to get the business up and running.

What really upsets me at the moment is a lot of my so called friends think cleaning windows is some sort of pikey job and is below them!. Well stuff them is what I say. I used to really like it and I am really looking forward to a new challenge - I have been sat on my arse for to long.

Its great to have a forum like this where all types of issues are discussed and debated and there is always someone willing to give advice or help.
