Low emission Zone
« on: February 20, 2011, 08:50:35 am »
Morning all,

Not sure if people have heard but Boris Johnson is bringing in the third phase of the Low emission Zone on the 3rd of January.

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/lez/17700.aspx#tkt-tab-panel-2

Now all the adverts on the radio are saying it's for coaches, buses and large commercial vehicles, but when you go on the website it's also for vans and pickup trucks.

Basically anything over 1.205 tonnes Berlingo type size van, I know I'm putting this topic on early but before we know it the date will be here. And the charge is £200 a day :o

Regards

Gordon

Its not only vans, all 4x4s registered before 2002 and motor caravans.

I live inside the zone, there are going to be so many people getting clobbered that didn't even realise they were included. Just round the corner from where I live is an elderly couple with an immaculate motorhome, I think its a W reg. That will have to go. My mate has a very old series one Landrover in show condition, same thing.

Actually you can still drive in and out of the zone if you know where the cameras are situated but obviously its a bit risky. the charge is £200 a day so I can't imagine what the fine will be.

And actually, its not Boris. This plan was started under Livingstone

In this economic climate I wonder how far it will really get before the residents start to fight back.

Thanks for putting that link up, just checked my truck and it is ok, but have to admit I didn't know it was going to include 4x4, pick-up trucks etc.

I know, things are tough enough as it is with out having to fork out for a new van or £200 a day,

Thankfully I've got a 96' berlingo thats only got a weight of 1155 tonnes so no need to buy a new van.

If I wanted a new van then I'd go and get one, I just hate the thought of some one telling me I must do this or do that.

Actually if you read it they should be OK through excemption as all pre 1973 motors are regardless of type - However, everyone else appears to be screwed ::) ::) ::)
