Are any of considering the extra costs in your pricing, probably works out about £1 a day plus charges, not a lot to to absorb I suppose but it all adds up with rises in costs in general? I would probably resist it, it's a fascinating thread and I have been hesitating for a couple of years but it is increasingly obvious it's time to change. I'm surprised there is not an easier way everyone can pay for everything by mobile phone and it's not being pushed or developed by networks, the first that cracks it could have a considerable lead on the competition, it could be paid via your mobile bill, works for ring tones and the like.

richard: of course asking for a tip is cheeky but you could be clever about it and make it out like it's not your doing that it's there, e.g. first go on about how hard business is lately all money spent on fuel, supplies etc, leaving nothing for poor little you (which lately is the truth any way), then say "here's the machine mrs smith, can you enter your pin when it asks for it, oh and btw when it asks the first question just say no it's a standard thing i don't know how to get rid of" you aren't forcing them and in fact advising them how not to tip you but it puts the idea in their mind if it wasn't already.

some may see it as cheeky/sneaky (which it is) but imo it's no different then many advertising techniques used that are designed to put the idea in the customers mind that they need their carpets cleaned when they weren't thinking of it to begin with.

restaurants do it and get away with it and i guess it must work else why would they do it.

The idiot awards are on E4 at the moment.
If there's still time I think I'll nominate you for one.

Alternatively you could just admit that you are trying to wind us all up after a few drinks

i wish i could remember that quote about how the successful people are the ones who tried what everyone said was a stupid idea ;) google tried to sell their search engine technology to yahoo and they passed. some don't like different ideas

just a passing thought i'm not trying it yet and may never. Don't get too offended apparently smart one.

^^ its not a stupid idea GCS, but something a grease ball would do.

I'm with Simon on this one, its a great thread and good ideas getting thrown about. Very few people have asked if i take card payments so i'm not that sure if its worth the hassle for me just yet. Maybe when cheques get phased out by that time the rental and charges of these units might go down too. Just my 2 cents.

Think its a pretty cool idea being able to wip out a cc terminal tho  :)

yeah i think pulling a terminal out will give a good impression. i thought i read somewhere the other day someone in government was criticising the high charges of the machines and card charges but can't seem to find it. hoping they'll come down as they're used more often too.

Phew,my epdq system is finally up and running, ran a test payment through, then took 2 more payments that had been outstanding since Dec and Jan.
Have been reading up on all the info, what do you guy's do about pci dss ? Do you get someone in to audit your security and storage facilities ?
Think I need to get a safe,to store the card transaction details in,I have a firewall, and security and password protection on my pc,but think I will get a laptop just for work, then I can pop that in the safe too.
What goes around comes around

remember to keep backing up that data and store it securely in a different location preferably a different building.

what details do you store? what have thought it doesn't record any or maybe just last 4 digits at most as once you've got the money no need to use it later

Those of you who are with handepay, how are you finding them?

Have been offered a good deal by both them and 123send but can't make up my mind
