Chip and Pin Terminals
« on: February 16, 2011, 04:48:19 pm »
just signed up to having a chip and pin terminal

hunted the web for a good deal  and came up with a few

best deal was through handepay  £28 a month  which includes terminal hire , unlike most providers no min amount of transactions for merchant account normally min £10 most providers no setup fee   21p trans fee on debits and 1,2% on credit cards  except american express 2.5 % all transactions dealt through streamline ( uk s biggest)

nearest to them was 123 send 25 a month 10 for merchant account and 50 setup so with the vat handepay are £10 a month cheaper with no setup fee

Really must look into this because people are going to be more inclined to slap it on a credit card with the way the economy is heading.
I know Steve Chapman uses his mobile phone but I'm still not convinced that customers will be overly happy with their card details being fed through that means.

why don't we do each other a favour and recommend the person above who signs up, so say next person to sign up will recommend mick bullous, then the next that person etc?

I took a look at www.adelante.co.uk last night, particularly the system that works from your mobile phone, no terminal to carry round, and when you look at the demo it is a very simple system to use.

Still need a merchant banker which is a one off fee of £50, then some more.
Waiting for a call back to see what they say about pricing.

Hi Joe,
I had a call from them 2 days ago, how it works is this:
initial set up costs are £50.00 for a merchant bank (they use allied irish) payable after the first month of trading.
£50 set up for adelante.

then ongoing costs.
£10 per month or adelante for the use of the system
32p per debit card transaction
2.4% of credit card transaction.

hope this helps.

Dont sound too bad Hector, think I prefer using my mobile then having a dedicated terminal that I would probably forget to take out with me half the time.

Have you gone for it????     Any referal scheme anyone could benefit from????

What i would say about Adelante, is that everything happened exactly as they said it would, they set up the merchant account, easy to download software and set up and taking payments is extremely easy and fast.

Also you have the option of adding more phones if you have employees etc , a virtual terminal so you can do it on the laptop / pc and a website you can track all the payments etc.

Think you can also get software to integrate payments on your own website.

So quite alot of flexibilty there.

All i had to do was sign the forms when they came and I think provide a reference or two, which is pretty standard for a merchant bank account.

Its nice when things go smoothly for change  :)

Steve

thats a fair enough deal  funny how dif areas with the same companys offer dif deals   adelante was way more than that 2 weeks ago.

but i guess looking at the figures it works out the same .

as far as using a my mobile phone  for taking payments  if i were paying for something and was asked to punch my details into someones phone and obviously not getting a printed transaction slip  ( just normal job invoice) i would be very wary in fact i wouldnt pay for anything  in that way.

within 8 years cheques will not exist so we will all have to follow some route at some point .

paypal is not pratical and far far too expensive

Just got this from Adelante in the last 5 minutes

Thank you for your interest in our MobilePOS service.

MobilePOS
The revolutionary way to accept Credit & Debit card payments on your mobile phone, laptop or PC.
Demonstration link: http://www.adelante.co.uk/mobilepos.html

There is a set up fee for this service which is £50.
NO YEARLY LICENSE FEE.

£10 per month which gives first 50 transactions, then 20 pence per transaction thereafter. OR £30 per month which gives up to 200 transactions.

Mobile POS is simple and easy to use, no monthly rent for terminals, there is a web based database which logs every transaction so you can keep track of your money, and NO CONTRACT! Just a 30 day notice period.

Please note: ALL TRANSACTIONS ARE TREATED AS 'CARD NOT PRESENT' RATES

Merchant Account
We run our Merchant Accounts through AIB (Allied Irish Bank).
AIB Specialise and Focuses on Small+Medium Sized Businesses
No High Street branch network , which enables them to offer Competitive rates
Blended transaction charges - One rate for Credit / One rate for Debit
No increased charges for Corporate or Business cards
Generous Underwriting Terms
For the merchant account, we can arrange an account for you with Allied Irish Bank; this takes approx 7 days to set up. There isa £50 joining fee and then you are charged 2.4% for credit card transactions and 32p for debit cards.

The entire processing period can take up to Two weeks from the date we receive a completed order form (ATTACHED) from yourselves
....................
This is the system running thro the mobile phone.

Think it was Steve Chapman on another thread that joined this some time ago and customers have no problems with the fact a mobile phone is used.

Im in a thinking mode.

Joe,

Notice the system is 'card not present' also, which means people can pay over the phone ,  this has been very handy for me and I have regulars who will just phone when they get home from work and pay me,  not sure if you can do that with chip & pin, you must have an account that authorises you to do it.

Also many businesses that i invoice now just phone and pay this way, which I never thought would happen but is an added bonus.

No long contract period also, which is different from a few others.

I can quite honestly say I've never had anyone question about doing it through the phone,  most are familiar with handheld devices and they just take it in their stride.

Think most of my customers trust me anyhow  ;D ;D ;D
