Roof Racks
« on: February 15, 2011, 08:09:59 pm »
Evening all,

Im setting up as a traditional W/C to start with and so need to buy some roof racks for my Renault Clio.

Has anyone got any recommendations of decent rook racks and what to use to secure my ladders to the car?

Im not sure whether just going down to Halfords is really the best thing to do.

Cheers,

Caleb

ps - will be looking to switch to a van and WFP's as soon as possible, just wanna get started

Go on ebay will get you roof bars far better than halfrauds .   in Bn Q i bought Python cable locks ,which is a thin plastic covered long wire that pulls tight down to lock my ladders on . theif proof and quick

i wouldnt be too hasty to get away from being trad . sure it takes a while to get ladder savvy but then its allrite

Hi,

Yes, I would say ebay, if you can get one specifically for your car then thats great, otherwise I would recommend a Thule roofrack, they make adapters to fit most cars, you will also be able to find those on the bay.

I use ladder clamps for fixing ladder to roofrack, You can fit a padlock to those if need be.

Hi Caleb - Seen your other questions.

Roof racks ok from Halfords but still think the WFP system the best - we started with small tank in our Clio over 6 years ago, but decided to invest in the 500L tank and van.

As for canvassing you need 6 - 12months to build up a decent round to make a good income. And 2 -3 hours canvassing a day should get you there! Anymore than that and you will go insane!!

Any more questions my husband Mike and I are happy to help - just ask.

Hope you get things sorted out

Another vote for ebay.

Just be sure to get the correct bars for your vehicle that can take the weight and are able to have ladders clamped to them.

Be mindful of front and rear overhang. I see so many vehicle about where the ladder is simply too long. Can look more like a jousting competition!!

And with it being a hatch dont have the ladders hanging over back, unless you want scratches on boot  :)
