ncca membership renewal
« on: February 08, 2011, 12:54:47 pm »
just got this months newsletter and i see you now have to give sixty days notice to leave,  if you do'nt this is "legally enforceable" their words not mine, which i suppose means they will make you pay your years subscription whether you want out or not and if you do'nt they will take you to court. . do they really need our money that badly ? surely 30 days or even 14 days should be enough notice to leave and on top of that it all has to be paid in one go because they cant find a finance company, why do they need one ?, it's not like they give you anything tangible that has cost them money which might affect their cashflow i am sure they could put a system in place that would allow members to pay in two or three installments, it just seems to me that they seem intent on ruling the members they are meant to be helping with a rod of iron with no flexibility at all.

another point is that when i joined i had to provide proof of insurance before i could become a member whereas now if i am reading it correctly it would seem you can remain a member without proof of insurance but you will not be placed on their referal list, is this not a case of allowing standards to drop for cash ?.

out of interest does the ncca have an annual agm or send copies of end of year accounts out to members, i'd love to know what they do with all the money they make.

Just don't pay, can't see what they could do legally
it's only a membership fee.
What does proof of insurance mean? That on the day
you joined you had insurance? You could have cancelled
it the next day, a lot of people do.
Why does insurance make a difference, if anything goes
wrong you still have to pay out.

Can't comment on the NCCA but the membership of the IICRC is a waste of money. Joined a couple of years ago and only renewed last year to be able to include their logo on our website. They took my money then told me that I had to pay another £120 or so to use the logo. Not only that but they were quite abrupt using threats of legal action  ???

Heard nothing from them since 'logogate' until last week when they sent my renewal reminder. Even when I look for the slightest hint of a benefit I can't see any.

Needless to say this year I'll not be renewing.

Their courses are fine, their member benefits are zero, in my honest and humble opinion.

i agree with you ian i am paying just to use the logo but if i dont get anything from it i will look at it again next year and will probably not rejoin then.

about just not paying, i would'nt know the legal side of it they mention new articles of association but i do'nt know when they were changed or if members were told but if they start taking people to court or worse registering members with equifax as debtors this could seriously affect peoples credit, either way it seems a very bad way to treat members.

as for the training course i did the ncca one and one at cleansmart in the same month, they were almost identical in content cleansmarts one was half the price and i believe derek bolton who took the cleansmart one is responsible for some of the content of the ncca one anyway oh and another thing, if you take the cleansmart course the ncca will not allow you to join on completion despite the high regard derek bolton is held in by his peers.

And that's another example of why I won't join.
I contacted them with a view to just doing the exam, was told you can't do that you have to do the course (goes without saying there's a financial implication there too). Said, thanks very much but I don't want to do the 2 day introduction to carpet cleaning course just to get an NCCA badge of honour.
As for the 60 days to cancel or we will take the money anyway is beyond a joke. Are there any other trade organisations that run such a facist way of doing things.

ref  ncca subs, are you really telling me that there are members that cant find £250.00 ish in one payment,i know things are tough ,i think that is a ridiculous complaint.i have had my money back with refferals from the ncca and invaluble knowledge and help, they have saved me money in many ways product referals,i saved a lot on insurance
by putting me in touch with good alternative companies.the news letter always has something most of us can relate to
Paul pearce and pav have helped in many ways.
If you dont think your getting value for money you can leave!!!
nb my gym wants 90 days notice to leave

i did not say people could not afford £250 in one lump though i dare say there are some people out there who can't, i said the ncca is not being very helpful in ending this arrangement,  i just spoke to someone with a very successful business who says he prefers to pay everything monthly as its all about cashflow, one bill of £250 is nothing but if you have 5 or 6 all due at the same time then it would really interfere with a businesses cashflow.
as for referals it must be great where you live because there are loads of ncca members in surrey and if your all getting the same amount of referals then the ncca must be a well known organisation in your area. i am the only ncca member in swansea and have never had a referal.

as for gym membership mine is only 1 months notice to leave subject to a minimum 6 month contract but when i joined i was sat down and it was explained to me that i was signing a legally binding contract unlike the ncca where i was joining a professional trade organisation on an annual subscription big difference i think.

as for me having the option to leave if i do'nt like it thats true but equally i can remain a member and air any gripes i have as long as they are justified and not done with malice, free speech still applies in the uk and i am sorry if that offends you.

1 months notice for the gym???
I pay once a month for my gym membership.
It's due on the 12th of this month but if I decide
I want to go elsewhere I just don't pay and don't
go.
Legally binding contract for a gym, your having a
giraffe.
You can even pay as you go at mine if that's what
you want.

Interesting because Creighton might have hit on a very valid point, maybe if the ncca offered members a monthly payment option then more people would join, as it may put some off for having to pay it all in one go. I would prefer this over having to make just one payment. I and many others do this with all business insurance, just like I do with council tax, gas, electric etc.
