Afternoon Of Nostagia
« on: February 06, 2011, 05:47:30 pm »
Have been spending the afternoon having a good clear-out of
My attic/loft space and to my amazement I came across in an
Old cardboard box every single copy of CCA Newsletter as it
Was called during the time I was a member dating from around
The mid 1970`s.No air has got to them and all( a few dozen) are
In mint condition.
Reading one copy,thinking after my original upholstery cleaning
Training course,one of the tutors who was a former president and
Is now sadly longer with us,at the end of the course said “ Don’t
Undersell yourself cleaning upholstery.£20 to clean a 3 piece suite
Is quite easily obtainable.Never be frightened to make a charge for
Your services.”
Those were the days.
I feel rather sad and nostalgic really.
A lump came to my throat as I threw them into my dustbin for waste
Collection on Tuesday.

I used to buy Polo's mint sweets for 4p from the local pub when I was at school and just before the bell went for the end of dinner I could sell them for 10p, I guess they'll be 40p now so I could get a quid, back to school for me then!

I remember taking the glass crona bottles of pop back to the pub and getting 10p return.
Then jumping the wall round the back to get the bottle back out of the crate ::)

My wife likes the old Ladybird children's books and someone gave her a notebook based on the Ladybird books - this is a quote from the back of the notebook :

" If your formative years meant:

school dinners were liver and onions rather than turkey twizzlers;

a blackberry was something you picked in a country lane not something you spent your weekend ignoring;

My Space was a den in your back garden built with bed sheets and runner bean canes;

Noah, Isaac and Joshua were characters from the Bible rather than kids in your class;

Wheelies were what you did on your bike in the park and not what you wore on your feet for the weekly shop;

And if you wanted to be an astronaut, train driver, footballer, or anything other than a celebrity when you grew up ....

Congratulations you are a product of the Ladybird Generation ! "
