Is phone number registered to that business?

Is it a Ltd Co.?

BT owns the number, not the company.

Call BT once business has ceased trading and see if number is available.

BT shelves them for around 5yrs after a business ceases trading. After this period, its put back up for re-use and often given out to a new business.

We were given a new number in February last year, all was well until April. We were then getting around 7 calls a week requesting wedding packs and room availability, our biz is sats and aerials. And this number had not been in use for 5 years!! ;D

sorry did not call was very busy.

If the number has the persons ok that holds it at the moment you both contact BT and it a straight swap. This can be expensive way as you will have to use what's called a remote forwarding services if your not on the same exchange.

The second option is from Smart numbers again some letters need to written but they turn the number into a smart number. small one off cost with this option.

Have done both over the years.

If you dont have the OK from the current owner then you have a problem.

Hope that helps

I was thinking along similar lines (pardon the pun) to Ian.

If you can get hold of the bill to pay it then it's simply a case of then updating BT with name and address of where to send the bill.

All you would then need to do is have the number diverted at the exchange onto your mobile.

Or something like that!
