hi there
had a cussy mid dec last year who booked us to clean carpets and upholstery,
While there, due to the weather I can only imagine the pump decided to play up,
So rather than let the client down we used our pressure spray and the extracted to follow.
The jobbie was done and all seemed fine till we get a call the following day saying there was a browning to the carpet and strangley enough the upholstery also.
I visited the client house and yes there was a slight hint of browning on the carpet but nothing evident on the upholstery, anyway as I was waiting for my new pump to arrive  there was little I could do imediatley so told cussy I'd call as soon as machine was repaired which I did 2 days later.
As it wasnt convenient with cussy to go and reclean carpets and upholstery that day. It was agreed cussy would contact us to rearrange , we constantly called cussy right up to the new year.
We eventually got an email to say they would contact 3rd Jan when they would have there work schedual and would be able to rearrange.
So we have waited all this time and as no contact has since been made  been made we  thought they were obviously happy now since all had dried.
Now 7 weeks down the road we have had an Email to rearrange to clean on 18th feb over 2 mths after jobbie was done.
Would you still honour this after so long or add a charge

You have over wet the carpet and caused the browning, you need to treat with browning prescription and keep your fingers crossed, you need to turbo dry too, hope your insured

Unless the problem has "disappeared" during the "waiting" time, then you should honour what you said you would do.

Marc how did the pump up sprayer put down more moisture than a machine pump?

I have had a pump go down after prespray aggitate just fill bottle with a acid rinse and work a few sqm at a time plenty of dry strokes

Still you got to go back and sort it good luck

Machine breakdown = no job, don't bodge!!!!

Look how much hassle it causes.  You can very easily return with machine fixed or a borrowed machine, how far from another friendly carpet cleaner are you?  Worth striking up good relationships...

I have never met many customers who, when presented with the option of either a bodge job or a professional approach, would choose the bodge!  Most would be glad you've kept them informed and RESPECTED their property enough to do the honourable thing, even if it is more inconvenient on both parts.

Agree with Colin on this and other " text talk " that some use. It gives the impression of someone who is lazy and has attitude and likely to take shortcuts in their work.

Noticed on recent radio / tv programmes employers are thinking along the same lines.

What pre spray did you use?  Seems unlikely it was over wet when less water would have been put down than normal

No one actually uses text talk as they speak, not unless they're auditioning for 'Jezza' Kyle

I see it often on CIU where we describe our customers as "Custy" or "Cussy", in fact, I think it's actually used as a term of endearment. Nothing wrong with that in my books, I can't see Mark actually calling his customers "Cussy" to their face somehow.

Back to the thread.... We all seem to forget that we all make mistakes, Mark was probably trying to think outside the box, much to his and his customer's demise! Not not only has he learnt a valuable lesson, but by having the guts to post something like this on CIU, (thus opening himself up to people who seem to wait to pounce to make themselves look good) he sends a clear warning to anyone who reads his thread, not to 'make do'.

Perhaps there should be a page dedicated to "Mistakes" we make, not for people to gloat over, but for people to learn from....

I could have called this person a customer or client but yes I call them cussy a word used before here and not assasinated.
I had also taken a helper with me who pre sprayed while i extracted a little more vigerously than I had anticipated.
Yes your probley right to assume it was bodged job although when you use your rotory dont you pre spray?
I think you have taken poor grammer and made it into a character assasination.
I had told The CLIENT that the best way to deal was to rearrange but was asked if  there was a way to do this job that day due to there work schedual and christmas.
I can assume the pre spray was put down to heavy and soaked the underlaywhich in turn caused the browning to wick through.
Logic says RE schedual the job but as the client comes first there wish is first and foremost after all they are paying, unfortunatly this back fired.
The question was not  'please all come and character assasinate me'. the question was ' due to the time lapse  how would you deal.'?
I know how I am going to deal and have re booked the job for later in month re- there schedual.

My machines are serviced on a regular basis I now have a pump, two extractor motors and a couple of heating elements in stock for such occassions so turn around is a couple of hours to one day while seals dry,there was six inches of snow that day and was still falling,it seems snow had collected in the grill which caused a short to the pump.
As for borrowing another Cc's machine this area like others had chocolate soldiers, they also wouldnt venture out in the snow.[ a chocolate soldier would rather sit in front of the fire and melt than soldier on]
once again I see there are thous that choose to get on there high horse and preach like they have never had to make a choice to do what they can in there situation.

yes Ive been in business for myself for nearly 3 yrs and like others have had a learning curve to take on board.
