Hi, just wondering where is the best place to get dry - kiln sand for resanding. Also, what would be approx estimates per square metre for brick paving and what for stone paving re-sanding,

hi rob125   kiln dried sand from diy stores @about £3.50 a bag
as to how per sq metre     depends how much you wash out    remember to cross brush & a little goes a looooong way

ring around for the best price, they are always changing depending on suppliers costs. try and buy at least 10 bags at a time as there are very substantial savings for bulk purchases. store in a dry palce on a pallet.

B&Q and Wickes are about 3.32 per 25kg bags.

I prefer B&Q's for it's colour shade compared to Wickes'. B&Q's stands out better in block paving.

Only the B&Q Warehouses do it too. Most smaller one's don't stock it.

You'll also find Travis Perkins costs more.

Its for sandstone (yellow colour..) - also what does cross brushing mean??
do you mean not just vertical / horizontal - but diagnolly?

Don't underestimate how long this can take to do properly, the cost of the sand is a small part of the job, I charge 1/1.50 psm and adjust to take into account how far i've got to travel.

EG. 100sq mtrs, 4/5 bags (£20), 5 minutes from me took me over half a day to do, £1 psm, (£80 for me) too cheap I think, but made it up on the surface cleaning.

We get ours from Build Centre (nice and close) we pay £3.30 for a 25kg bag (special rate) which covers roughly 25 m2. Make sure the sand is not damp as it will have to dry out on the paving before you can brush it in.
Also it should take you about 1 hour to brush in 100m2.

From home 09:00, drive to build centre, pick up sand from yard, go to counter, wait in line, go to coffee machine, chat with Brian, drive to client, start sanding, drive to Goodies for breakfast,chat with dolly at counter  , drive back to client, finish sanding, no sand left on surface all joints filled to bottom of bevel, drive home 13:00, make a sandwich, if its a Friday - walk to pub 14:00 - 17:00, Stagger back from pub just in time for dinner  as I said don't underestimate how long sanding takes  :

I try not to drink too much tea during the day as I would be peeing round the back of peoples houses every half an hour (flange has gone due to age) and on a Friday after dinner I go to my mates bike shop for a tinny or two, or three, or four etc
